Dear Upper School Families,
Many thanks to all of our students and families for following our new formal dress uniform guidelines for picture day! All of our students looked great for their pictures. A reminder that formal uniform requires long black pants, purchased through Norman’s, or one of the formal skirt options (Black or Red Plaid). Shorts are not allowed for the formal uniform. Please consult the Handbook for Students and Families for more information about our formal uniform.
Student Led Conferences are coming up next Wednesday, October 4. In a Student-Led Conference, the learner takes responsibility for communicating to their family what the learning process is like for them. Students discuss what their strengths are, and where they have room to grow. It is important for Students to participate in this process, to understand their own learning strengths and areas for growth, and to have an opportunity to show their family samples of the work they are doing, that they are proud of. You should have heard from your student’s Advisor by now, with an invitation to make an appointment for SLC day. If your family is unable to attend because of any scheduling conflict, please make an appointment to meet with your student’s advisor at an alternative time, as this process is not optional, and is part of the Advisory curriculum which is a graded class for students.
If you would like to read more about the philosophy behind Student Led Conferences, this is a good start.
We leave this afternoon on our annual Freshman Retreat. We will depart school at 2 pm, and return on Friday, September 29 at around 3:30 pm. My direct contact information is on the permission form for the trip, as well as the location information for the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center. You can call the Upper School for additional information while the students are away.
