Weekly Notes from the Head of Upper School, 9/4

Dear Upper School Families,

Welcome back students and families to the first week of school. Upper school students are already involved in their sports, meetings for clubs, as well as high levels of engagement in all their courses. It has been wonderful to see returning students, as well as new students, gracing the Upper School student lounge, and enjoying each other’s company. Our Advisory program for this year will continue its focus on social and emotional well-being as well as continue to strengthen efforts in the area of service learning opportunities. 9th grade students will begin outlining goals and aspirations for high school and beyond and will work to create individualized four year plans. 10th grade students will begin to investigate passions and learning desires for the future in a more informative and deliberate way. 11th and 12th grade students will continue to have a curriculum that is meant to guide them, and their families, through the college admissions process. Above all, Advisory will serve as the main contact for communication about academic performance and other supports in place for student advisees. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your student’s advisor with questions or concerns. The Advisor is the primary contact for students’ successes in all aspects of their Palm Valley schooling experience. Communication is the key!
-Dr. McLachlan
