Dear Upper School Families,
The first quarter of the school year is well underway. It is an important time for advisors to reach out to families concerning academic grades, and for families to discuss the best strategies for their students to maintain their academic performances. It is also the season of college essay preparation for senior students, so when you see a senior, take a moment to reach out and say congratulations as they continue on their academic journeys. On another note, this past weekend was a great time at the Freshman Retreat in Lake Arrowhead. Thank you to Ms. Zachik, Ms. Castellano, and Mr. Griffin for helping out with this incredible time of team-building.
The Coachella Valley College Fair is coming to Agua Caliente on October 3, from 5-8pm. There are many colleges and universities at this event. It is free, and students have many opportunities to meet and speak with admissions counselors from a variety of schools. Students can sign up online at NTBWeek.com
Information University Session
On Monday, October 14th, there is an opportunity to attend an informational session for the following universities: Yale, Princeton, Harvard, University of Virginia, and Wellesley. This event takes place in the evening in Los Angeles. It is open to parents and students. If you are interested, send me an email as soon as possible.
One of the most important annual academic check-in for students and parents is the student-led-conferences. These conferences will take place on October 9th, and students do an incredible job of presenting their successes and learning improvements. Please keep your eye out for an invitation by phone or email from your student’s advisor.
This Friday, September 27th, at 8:15am in the gym is the first buddy assembly of the school year. Students have such a great time doing activities throughout the school year and talk about their positive experiences with their younger buddies.
Continue to email Ms. Sholander, your student’s advisor, and myself if your student is absent, or going to be absent. Attending school on a regular basis is directly connected to high levels of student achievement. Emergencies, illness, and other events do come up, and we want to be supportive. Letting us know when your student is gone also allows for teachers to be prepared to help them make up for any missed activities.
Come out and support our sports teams. Cross Country did a fantastic job in Riverside this week. Your support means a great deal to student athletes. Thank you for your support.
The Palm Valley Spirit Store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30pm. It is a great place to find all the Palm Valley gear you need to show your Firebird pride, as well as purchase gently used uniforms.
Each year, the Palm Valley School community contributes to the education of our Firebirds. There is always a 100% participation from members of the Board of Trustees and from PVS staff members showing their Firebird pride. This annual fund is important to our students and families at Palm Valley. Please remember to submit your contribution or gift in kind. Please click on the link
Senior Parking Space Painting
This annual senior event will take place this Saturday, September 28th, from 7:30-12:30pm. I am sure the seniors’ paintings will be amazing. Check out the finished product after their hard work. The spaces are located across from staff parking near the Lower School. These spots are reserved for seniors throughout the school year.
School Forms Online
Please remember to submit all required school forms to Ms. Sholander in the Upper School front office. We encourage all families to utilize MyBackpack to complete applicable forms required by Palm Valley School. Such forms as "Use of Technology Agreement" or "Driver Forms" can all be completed online - no paper necessary.
All parents/guardians should have a MyBackpack WebID and be able to login and see MyDocuments.
