Dear Upper School Families,
Welcome back! The first few days of school have been joyous and energetic. Soon we will settle into the rhythm of the year. I hope to be able to share some helpful items for families of high school aged students in the coming weeks, but today’s email will focus mostly on housekeeping issues to get us off to a great start!
Students and families can use our school portal, MyBackpack, to find information about schedules, homework, and grades. Students have their own MyBackpack accounts, and they should be using their own login and password to access their MyBackpack. If students need help with MyBackpack, they should ask Ms. Steinman. If families are having trouble logging in, they should ask Mrs. Sholander (firstname.lastname@example.org). Teachers update MyBackpack with grades and assignments weekly.
School Forms Online
We encourage all families to utilize MyBackpack to complete applicable forms required by Palm Valley School. Such forms as "Use of Technology Agreement" or "Driver Forms" can all be completed online - no paper necessary.
All parents/guardians should have a MyBackpack WebID and be able to login and see MyDocuments. Forms to complete will be shown as "New.” Once they are completed they will be submitted to Administrative Assistants for approval.
Upper School students are required to report to After-Care if they are still on campus at 3:35 pm. Supervision is required at all times for the safety of our students. Students who are waiting for sports games, or practices, will not be charged but must be in After-Care. Additionally, US students who choose to participate as Homework Helpers for Lower and Middle School students will also not be charged for After-Care. Early Release this Friday
This Friday, August 31st is an early release day. Students will be dismissed at 12:25 pm. After-Care will be available. Enjoy the long weekend!
Hot Lunch & Pizza
Hot lunch forms will go out to families this week and hot lunch will start on Monday, September 10th. Pizza forms were sent out in the August mailing and should be returned by Friday, September 7th. Pizza will begin Friday, September 14th.
Dropping items off for students
If you need to drop an item off for your student, please do so at the front desk of the Upper School, with your student’s name on it. Students can pick items up from the front desk, but items will not be delivered to students. Students do not have access to personal electronic devices, but they do have access to email, and you are welcome to send your student an email letting them know to pick up their items at the front desk. As this is the Upper School, we strongly encourage you to resist the urge to bring forgotten items to school. Developing a sense of responsibility, and accepting consequences, are important character traits that we encourage students to develop.
