Dear Upper School Families,
This fall we welcome two new members of the Palm Valley School community. Kerry Maguire joins us as a new Middle and Upper School English teacher. Mrs. Maguire comes to us from The Episcopal School of Los Angeles. She has a rich background in independent schools and brings with her not just an impressive resume as an English teacher, but also experience in administration, and law. Also joining our staff in the fall as a Middle and Upper School Math teacher is Wes Williams. Mr. Williams comes to us from Chaminade College Preparatory School in Chatsworth, where he taught Middle and Upper School Math, and Film classes. His diverse background in Math, Film, and Technology makes him an ideal addition to our school.
At the same time, we say goodbye to two faculty members this year. Dr. Tonya Carr came to our school as our Admissions Director and more recently joined our teaching staff in Middle and Upper School English, and History. While we are sad to see her leave, she says, “While goodbyes are hard for me, I am looking forward to the next chapter, where I plan to be involved in adult education and health education. My heart will always hold a special place for this amazing institution, and I will always feel proud that I was able to be part of its development.”
We also say goodbye to Susan Farley, Middle and Upper School Math teacher. Mrs. Farley has been with the school for 20 years and has served in many capacities, including as club advisor, and yearbook advisor. Mrs. Farley tells us, “What a pleasure it has been to teach in a place where the students come first and where I’ve been able to watch so many adolescents evolve into confident, competent, and compassionate young adults. Palm Valley School is a truly transformative place.”
We are all grateful for the time we’ve had with Dr. Carr and Mrs. Farley, and we wish them the very best in the future!
