Weekly Notes from the Head of Upper School, 3/28

Dear Upper School Families,

Hard to believe that when we return from Spring Break on April 9th, there will be four weeks until AP testing, seven weeks until semester assessments, and only nine weeks of school remaining. This year has flown by! Mr. Hewitt and I are currently scheduling the incoming 10th graders, so look for our emails. We will then move on to 11th and 12th grade. In late April, students will be visited in their core classes by AP teachers, who will give them a preview of the summer work and expectations for their classes. This will allow students an opportunity to revise their scheduling if need be. Electives will be chosen in May.

Have a great Spring Break!

Enrollment Contracts
To clear up any confusion, completed enrollment contracts allow us to plan for what courses we will offer, and how many sections of each course we need. We use this information to conduct hiring and teaching assignments for the fall. If we do not know how many students we have returning, we risk not being able to offer all courses because of staffing issues. Because of this reason, parents are asked to return their enrollment contracts on March 1. This time of year is considered hiring season for independent schools, and if we need to hire teachers, this is when most candidates are available. Scheduling of classes will not happen for students who have not returned their enrollment contracts, and students are not guaranteed placement in their first choice classes.

The final deadline for re-enrollment contracts and deposits is April 1st. If you need another copy of your child's re-enrollment contract, contact the Business Office and we will be happy to print one. Any student who does not have a re-enrollment contract submitted by the deadline will be required to reapply to the school which includes completing a new application, application fee ($125), and new family fee ($1,000). If you have any questions or concerns please call or email Jodi Wiseley at 760-328-0861 or jwiseley@pvs.org.

Upper School Prom
This year, ASB is presenting "Fly Me to the Moon" as their theme for Prom. Students are encouraged to purchase tickets early, as prices will rise as the date approaches. Prom will be on Saturday, May 26th at the Palm Springs Air Museum in Palm Springs. Starting at 7:00 pm, there will be cold drinks and dessert, as well as photos and dancing!

As you know, we are a small but mighty Upper School. Only through the participation of all of our students are we able to create a memorable last Prom for the Class of 2018. If our younger students do not come out to support our current seniors, who will come out to support them when they are seniors? Please encourage your students to participate, so that they can ensure a healthy tradition for their own future class! Tickets will go on sale in April ~ $55 for a single and $90 for a pair. Come join us!
