Weekly Notes from the Head of Upper School, 3/14

Dear Upper School Families,

Today, some of our Upper School students participated in a remembrance event for the students and teachers who were killed in the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. This action was voluntary, organized by students, and was meant to be a time of reflection and mourning for the victims. Students who chose to participate, gathered on the field for 17 minutes, a minute for each victim.

My role is not to encourage or discourage our students from participating in any particular action but to make sure that students are safe, behave responsibly and appropriately, and try to limit any potential impact on instructional time. I’m proud of the way our students organized themselves, and how they used their time reflectively and positively, to remember other students whose time has ended too soon.

Finding One's Voice Competition
Senior Tilly Green is a finalist in the 2018 Fine Arts Creativity Finding One's Voice competition hosted by the Palm Springs Art Museum. Her digital art piece titled "Cover Up" will show Sunday, April 8 - Tuesday, May 15 at the museum! Only 48 pieces are chosen out of all participating Coachella Valley high schools and junior colleges. Congratulations, Tilly!

Enrollment Contracts
To ensure that all courses your student wishes and needs to take are offered next year, and to secure their space in next year’s class, your completed enrollment contract and deposit must be received by the business office as soon as possible. They were due back on March 1st, so they are now overdue and scheduling has already begun. We will not be scheduling classes for your student until their enrollment contracts are received. Students are not guaranteed placement in their first choice courses until their enrollment contracts are received. Student contracts that are not turned in by April 1st may not be guaranteed the courses that they want for next year.
