Weekly Notes from the Head of Upper School, 3/27

Dear Upper School Families,

Soon the third quarter will end and progress reports will be sent home.  I have heard some questions from students and parents, and I would like to take this opportunity to explain some differences between the quarter progress reports, the semester reports, and the Upper School transcript.

Attendance is only reported on the progress report for the student’s and parent’s information. Unless a student has had excessive unexcused absences, as defined in the Handbook for Students and Families, there is no penalty for a student to have absences.  Additionally, only the progress report contains attendance information or comments from teachers. This report remains confidential between the school and family. It is not sent to third parties outside the school community.

Quarter grades are considered progress grades and are not recorded on the official transcript.  The official transcript contains only the semester grades, which are calculated from the two-quarters of the semester, along with the semester exam.  In addition to grades, the transcript reflects credit information and GPA. If you are interested in seeing your child’s transcript, you can request a copy from Mrs. Sholander at the front desk of the Upper School.  Because of privacy concerns, transcripts must be picked up in person.

If you have any other questions about progress reports or transcripts, please contact me at asteinman@pvs.org.
