Weekly Notes from the Head of Upper School, 2/28

Dear Upper School Families,

Join us in Dining for Dollars tonight from 5 pm - 9 pm at the Habit Burger Grill in Palm Desert. Proceeds go to the Palm Valley School. Have a great burger, and support the school at the same time! Present this flyer and 20% of your receipt will benefit PVS.

Mock Trial
Congratulations to our Mock Trial team who ended their season with two competitions during the February break. Our team earned 12 gavels and three individual medals. Individual medal winners are: Bronze Medal, Shelby Armor, for her portrayal of Detective Carroll; Bronze Medal, Lawrence Nelson, for his portrayal of Court Clerk; and Gold Medal, Hannah Makkai, for her portrayal of Medical Examiner Morrison, making her performance the #1 student performance in Riverside County in this role! Additionally, I’d like to thank the following parents for assisting in carpool duties and supporting the team: John Armor, Paul Kaufmann, Kathryn and Andrew Laule, Jennifer Jenkins, Karen Makkai, Cheryl Langlois, Margaux Dinerman, Paige Brown, Amanda Bright, and David Nick.

Desert Best Friend’s Closet
We are still collecting gently used clothing that is either business/interview ready or prom/special event related. Shoes and other accessories are also greatly needed. Of particular need is both men and women’s larger professional garments. Drive ends on Friday, March 2.

Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences are coming up on Wednesday, March 7. There will be no classes that day, and parents should have received communication from their student’s advisor with information on how to sign up.

CSF Carwash
CSF will be hosting a carwash on Student Led Conference day, March 7.  Have your car washed while you are attending conferences!  Donations go to support the good work of CSF.  For more information, contact Ms. Zachik, szachik@pvs.org.

Grandparents & Special Friends Day
We will be celebrating our annual Grandparents & Special Friends Day on Friday, March 16 in the gymnasium. Students must be wearing their FORMAL DRESS UNIFORM on this day. Please make sure ahead of time that your student has their uniform ready. Additionally, this is a half-day, which means students are dismissed at 12:25 pm.

This year's Ember, Palm Valley School's Preschool-Grade 12 yearbook is returning this spring and promises to be out of this world.  The 200 page, full-color, hardbound annual, created by Mrs. Farley's & Ms. Straky's US/MS elective class and Mrs. Fisher and her LS faculty, will be delivered in June 2018. Order your copy online at ybpay.lifetouch.com. Our yearbook ID code is 12453418. The price is $55 until February 28, but on March 1 increases to $60.  The last day to pre-order your Ember is April 16. PDA ads are also a great way to acknowledge students on a great year, particularly if it is a "milestone" year, like graduating from grades K, 5, 8, or 12.  For more information, please contact Susan Farley at sfarley@pvs.org by April 1.

Alice in Wonderland, Jr.  MS Play!
Join precocious and curious Alice as she chases the frustrated rabbit down the hole to discover an adventure that is altogether fantastical and memorable. Thirty-one talented singing and dancing Middle School actors and actresses under the direction of Mr. Gahnz and Mr. Sarkis will bring it all to musical life, this Spring, on stage at Palm Valley School.
