Dear Upper School Families,
Yesterday evening, our Photography students were honored as photo exhibit winners of The Tolerance Education Center's competition "Identify." Their photos will be displayed and are up for auction until May at the Tolerance Center in Rancho Mirage. Congratulations Hannah Makkai, Linda Gao, Sydney Armor, Tilly Green, Machi Iwata, Jordan Dinerman and Marianne Capetz.
During this Friday morning's assembly, we will be recognizing Upper School students who have earned honor roll or high honor roll for the first semester. Families are welcome to join us from 8:20 AM to 8:45 AM in the Gym.
This Friday is also Move Up Day. We are hosting our current 8th grade students and some outside prospective students in the Upper School. Move Up Day is one of our most anticipated yearly traditions. Our Upper School students enjoy sharing their favorite parts of the PVS experience with students who may not have a clear idea of what it is like to be an Upper Schooler. Upper School students, and 8th grade students, were surveyed to see what their interests were, and then paired with students who share similar interests. Upper School students eagerly approached me today to find out if they had been selected, and who they were paired with. It looks like it will be another exciting Move Up Day in the Upper School.
A quick good luck to our Girls’ Basketball team, traveling to Irvine this Thursdayfor round one of the CIF playoffs. Our girls have really given their all and played triumphantly through the season with only six players. At times, they’ve defeated teams with only four girls on the floor. This team has HEART and we wish them the best of luck!
Desert Best Friend’s Closet
On Tuesday afternoon, our students were given a presentation by Connie Golds, former PVS Board Chair, and founder of Desert Best Friend’s Closet. Ms. Golds presented her organization’s mission and values, as well as her own experiences starting and working for a non-profit organization that is so important in our community. We are encouraging families to donate gently used clothing that is either business/interview ready or prom/special event related. Shoes and other accessories are also greatly needed. Of particular need is both men and women’s larger professional garments. Our drive will be going this week, and the week after the February break.
On February 27, PVS will be hosting a blood drive on behalf of LifeStream. LifeStream is a non-profit 501(c)(3) blood center founded in 1951 as the Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Today, LifeStream provides blood products and services to more than 80 Southern California hospitals in five counties. To fulfill patient need, LifeStream must collect 500 blood donations daily. You can use this link to schedule a blood donation on February 27. Students 15 and up can also donate if they complete the student donor form that was sent home from school. Your donations will save lives here in the Coachella Valley!

Order your copy online at ybpay.lifetouch.com. Our yearbook ID code is 12453418. The price is $55 until February 28, but on March 1 increases to $60. The last day to pre-order your Ember is April 16.
