Weekly Notes from Head of Upper School, 10/2

Dear Upper School Families,

Fall has truly arrived to our beautiful valley, and there are many activities happening throughout Firebird Land. Congratulations to our Sports teams on doing such a great job. If you haven’t had the chance to see a Volleyball match or a Cross Country meet, Athletics schedules are located on the Palm Valley website. Come on out and support the Firebirds!

Student-Led Conferences
An integral part of the rigorous academic curriculum here at Palm Valley are the phenomenal outcomes your students assemble for their courses. Palm Valley showcases these successes through the student-led conferences. These conferences will take place on October 9, and your student’s Advisor will be reaching out to you to schedule a time to meet. If there are particular concerns you have with a course, please let the Advisor know and the Advisor will communicate that information with the course instructor.

Professional Development for Faculty
Teacher Professional Development will take place on October 14. This all-day event provides teachers the opportunity to share and learn new and exciting ways to engage all Palm Valley students.

College Fair
The Coachella Valley College Fair is coming to Agua Caliente, tomorrow, October 3, from 5-8pm. There are many colleges and universities at this event. It is free, and students have many opportunities to meet and speak with admissions counselors from a variety of schools. Students can sign up online at NTBWeek.com

Buddies
This Friday, September 27th, at 8:15am in the gym is the first buddy assembly of the school year. Students have such a great time doing activities throughout the school year and talk about their positive experiences with their younger buddies.

Attendance
Continue to email Ms. Sholander, your student’s advisor, and myself if your student is absent, or going to be absent. Attending school on a regular basis is directly connected to high levels of student achievement. Emergencies, illness, and other events do come up, and we want to be supportive. Letting us know when your student is gone also allows for teachers to be prepared to help them make up for any missed activities.

Sports
Upper School students interested in playing sports, see Coach Zinman. Sign-ups are available.

Spirit Store
The Palm Valley Spirit Store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:00-3:30pm. It is a great place to find all the Palm Valley gear you need to show your Firebird pride, as well as purchase gently used uniforms.

Annual Fund
Each year, the Palm Valley School community contributes to the education of our Firebirds. There is always a 100% participation from members of the Board of Trustees and from PVS staff members showing their Firebird pride. This annual fund is important to our students and families at Palm Valley. Please remember to submit your contribution or gift in kind. Click here

School Forms Online
Please remember to submit all required school forms to Ms. Sholander in the Upper School front office. We encourage all families to utilize MyBackpack to complete applicable forms required by Palm Valley School. Such forms as "Use of Technology Agreement" or "Driver Forms" can all be completed online - no paper necessary.

All parents/guardians should have a MyBackpack WebID and be able to login and see MyDocuments. Forms to complete will be shown as "New.” Once they are completed they will be submitted to Administrative Assistants for approval. Any questions or concerns may be directed to Mr. Kisling at gkisling@pvs.org
