Eblast from the Head of Upper School, 12/13

Greetings Upper School Families,

Palm Valley students and families continue to demonstrate such great patience and resilience in this challenging time.  I am proud of your students’ continued hard work and dedication to academics.  Please consider this holiday season contributing to the Palm Valley Middle and Upper School community service project on behalf of the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.  As the new year quickly approaches, I wish all of you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

Community Service Project for Coachella Valley Rescue Mission
We are asking for donations of socks and travel sized toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, washcloths, razors, deodorant etc. Toiletry kits should be packaged at home in ziploc baggies and can then be dropped off in the middle or upper school lobbies. Donations are due by Wednesday, 16 December. Students may donate as many kits as they like.  Community service hours are available.  Check with your student’s advisor for additional questions regarding these hours.
Annual Fund Campaign
Please consider donating to the Annual Fund. This year, we have a generous donor who has pledged matching funds! That means, for every dollar donated we earn TWO for our school. We understand that this is a difficult time financially for everyone, but any amount you are able to give will make a big difference. Annual Gift

Spirit Days
Spirit days are always an exciting and celebratory time to dress up as the holidays approach.  Whether your student is virtual or in-person, students’ dress for spirit days contributes towards their “Nest” points.  Spirit days for December 14th through the 18th are the following:
Monday-Plaid Day
Tuesday-Sports Day
Wednesday-Ugly Sweater Day
Thursday-Inside-Out Day
Friday-PJ Day

Poetry Recital
It is Poetry Recitation time again at Palm Valley School. In the Upper School English classes, students are choosing favorite poems to memorize and share out loud. Through studying, memorizing, and performing influential and timeless poems, students immerse themselves in powerful expression and provocative ideas.

Spirit Store Message
The Spirit Store pop-ups that were scheduled for this Wednesday and next Wednesday are being postponed.  Due to the current COVID situation, the Parent Association decided it would be best to reschedule them for some time after the first of the year.  Also, the Spirit Store will be open by appointment only from now until we are out for winter break (December 18th).  If you have a specific item that you need to purchase, please email spiritstore@pvs.org and we will find a way to get it to you.  We will be in touch in early January with more Spirit Store info.  We do still have approximately 10 items left from the wreath fundraiser available for sale (wreaths, sprays and centerpieces).  Email pa@pvs.org if you would like to purchase something.

You may now order the 2020-2021 Yearbook online for the early bird price of $55. Please note: the price increases after 4 January! You may purchase your yearbook  here.

Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair
Palm Valley is one of the annual sponsors for the Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair.  I recommend all Upper School students check this fair out as there are many great colleges and universities represented.   Below is the website with information and student registration:

MyBackpack and the New In-person Schedule
MyBackpack is an excellent tool to monitor the performance of your child throughout the school year.  If you note any concerns, or have any questions, with any of the courses, please reach out to your child’s advisor.  Your child’s advisor will then assist you with communicating directly with the teacher of the course.

Snack Shop
The snack shop serves food that is either in individual containers or individually wrapped. Everything will cost from $1.00 - $3.00 and only cash will be accepted.
