Eblast from the Head of Upper School, 11/29

Dear Upper School Families,

We are now entering the holiday season, which is a time to spend important moments with family and to create memories together.  As always, Palm Valley Firebirds in the Upper School continue to shine and be role models for others.  Holidays also bring the opportunity to share with others in the Coachella Valley, and, this year, Middle and Upper School students will be participating in a community service project through their advisory classes.  It will be an opportunity to serve the community through the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, so please ask your children about this Palm Valley community service this holiday season.

Community Service Project for Coachella Valley Rescue Mission
We are asking for donations of socks and travel sized toiletries such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner, washcloths, razors, deodorant etc. Toiletry kits should be packaged at home in ziploc baggies and can then be dropped off in the middle or upper school lobbies. Donations are due by Wednesday, 16 December. Students may donate as many kits as they like.

Senior College Acceptances
Andrew Hall - Menlo College
Kyle Mauerman - University of Oregon, Boise State University
Jake Sonderman - Belmont University, Middle Tennessee State University, Columbia College Chicago
Leo Milmet - Wright State University

Poetry Recital
It is Poetry Recitation time again at Palm Valley School. In the Upper School English classes, students are choosing favorite poems to memorize poems and share out loud. Through studying, memorizing, and performing influential and timeless poems, students immerse themselves in powerful expression and provocative ideas.

Yearbook
You may now order the 2020-2021 Yearbook online for the early bird price of $55. Please note: the price increases after 4 January! You may purchase your yearbook  here.

Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair
Palm Valley is one of the annual sponsors for the Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair.  I recommend all Upper School students check this fair out as there are many great colleges and universities represented.   Below is the website with information and student registration:

MyBackpack and the New In-person Schedule
MyBackpack is an excellent tool to monitor the performance of your child throughout the school year.  If you note any concerns, or have any questions, with any of the courses, please reach out to your child’s advisor.  Your child’s advisor will then assist you with communicating directly with the teacher of the course.

Snack Shop
The snack shop serves food that is either in individual containers or individually wrapped. Everything will cost from $1.00 - $3.00 and only cash will be accepted.
