Eblast from the Head of Upper School, 10/25

Dear Upper School Families,

The cooler weather is finally here in our beautiful Coachella Valley.  Let’s enjoy it for awhile.  Below is a photo of our Palm Valley Senior Sunrise.  Taking the time to reflect, and practice mindfulness, this year was invaluable for staff, Seniors, Senior families, and staff who attended.  A “Big Shout Out” to Ms. Clark who facilitated and organized the event.  Below are some important messages for the upcoming few weeks.  As always, if you have any questions, contact me.

AP exam fees
The due date for AP exam fees is this week.  The fee is $95 per exam.  If your student is taking an AP class, and you would like your student to take the exam, the fee is required.  For payment, you can drop off cash or pay by check at the Upper School Office with Ms. Anders, or contact Ms. Romo in the business office for payment by credit card.  No tests will be ordered without payment.
End of Quarter 1
Friday marks the last day of Quarter one.  Now is an important time to reach out and contact your student’s advisor with any questions or concerns.  Though Quarter 1 is a progress report, and not recorded on the student transcript, it is worth 40% of the total semester grade, and it is important. For semester final grades, several weeks remain for students to continue their academic progress before grades are finalized at the end of semester one on January 22. These Quarter 1 progress reports will be sent home November 10.

Halloween
Although it may look different this year, we are still encouraging our students to wear their costumes to school on Friday, October 30th! Faculty and staff have chosen a theme, and we are looking forward to seeing the students' faces when they see us dressed up. We will be having small classroom celebrations in Advisory, with fun activities instead of our typical costume parade. All costumes must be school appropriate. Inappropriate costumes include excessive blood or weapons, and clothing that is too revealing.
Family Drive-In Movie Night
Our fabulous Parent Association is holding a Family Drive-In Movie Night on November 7th! Each car has an entry fee of $40, and the movie showing is Incredibles 2! The venue will open at 4:30 pm, and the movie will start at 6:00 pm. Go to this link to get more info and to purchase your Car Pass!
Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair
Palm Valley is one of the annual sponsors for the Coachella Valley Regional College and Career Fair.  I recommend all Upper School students check this fair out as there are many great colleges and universities represented.   Below is the website with information and student registration:

MyBackpack and the New In-person Schedule
MyBackpack is an excellent tool to monitor the performance of your child throughout the school year.  If you note any concerns, or have any questions, with any of the courses, please reach out to your child’s advisor.  Your child’s advisor will then assist you with communicating directly with the teacher of the course.
Snack Shop
The snack shop serves food that is either in individual containers or individually wrapped. Everything will cost from $1.00 - $3.00 and only cash will be accepted.

Fall Fundraiser
The Fall Fundraiser is in full swing.  Make sure to check out the beautiful Fall Wreaths.  The fundraiser begins this month and proceeds will go to supporting Palm Valley students.  Thank you in advance for your participation.  All orders and payments are due back to Palm Valley by Monday, October 26th.
