Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 3/3

Dear Middle School Families,

Thank you to everyone attending their student’s Student Led Conference today. Learning to take ownership and responsibility for one’s own learning is an important tool for every successful student. Your time and support to facilitate this process are truly appreciated.

A reminder that March is a very important time for Independent Schools. This is the month we look ahead to next year and try to estimate our staffing needs and which classes we’ll be able to offer. Critical to making an accurate estimate is the return of student enrollment contracts. If you have not yet returned your contract, please try to get it in as soon as possible so that we may plan accordingly.

CSF Car Wash
While you’re meeting with your student’s advisor, consider getting your car washed by the members of our Upper School Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation. Ms. Zachik and her students will be in the south parking lot of the Upper School Campus from 8am-noon on Wednesday, March 4th. Donations are appreciated. Please Note: Only the outside of each car gets washed!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Invite your grandparents and special friends to join us for our annual Grandparents and Special Friends Day breakfast and ceremony on Friday, March 13th at 7:45 am. This event features a special assembly and classroom activities for visitors to join in. Students will be dismissed at 12:25 pm. After-Care will not be available in the Middle School. Please note: Students are required to wear their Formal Dress Uniform on this day.

Upper School Play: Firebird
Palm Valley Theater Department presents The Firebird. The play has been created specifically for Palm Valley students, incorporating their unique talents. The production examines a young person’s quest for self-discovery while passing into, through, and out of our wondrous planetary existence. Prepare to be entertained, provoked and inspired, all at the same time, in an audio-visual experience of spiritual delight. Put the dates on your calendar and spread the word about the FIREBIRD! Get your tickets before they get sold out using this link!

El Paseo Fashion Week
We're excited to announce that the six student models are now set for the night on the runway presented by Palm Springs Life, Palm Valley School and Animal Samaritans at the Le Chien fashion show on March 22, 2020. Each of the four PVS divisions (Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School) is represented, so there is probably someone you and your student know bravely taking their turn in the spotlight to benefit the school. Come enjoy an evening of fun, fashion and family and offer your support to them and Palm Valley!

On March 15, from 10 am to noon, on the PVS Upper School campus, a FitMama seminar led by Jen Oliver will guide participants in a short, but effective fitness session to build central strength, learn special breathing exercises to reconnect their core -- it's all about being fit and able to cope with the pressures of the world!

On March 23, world-recognized player development and basketball coach education expert, Chris Oliver, will instruct those looking to improve specific skills in a small-group basketball training session at the Palm Valley School Gym from 3:30 - 4:30.

Thursday, March 26th from 6-7:30, Thunderbird Country Club hosts a social, rejuvenating Vino and Vinyasa yoga session led by Margi Briggs.

A few spots are still available in all of these sessions -- treat yourself and join in! Email or call Andrea Turner (aturner@pvs.org, 760-328-0861) to get your name on the participant list. Each session costs $150 and benefits Palm Valley School.
