Monday Notes from the Head of School, 2/3

“Nature is pleased with simplicity and nature is no dummy." - Isaac Newton

Dear Families,

Welcome to February! The year is flying by and we are already into the second semester. It's the windy season in the valley, and while we are heading for warmer weather, the mornings are still chilly. Still, the beautiful mountain backdrop and swaying palm trees remind us that we live in a picturesque area full of incredible vistas. During this cold "winter" season, don't forget that the flu and other viruses are active and remind students to wear their jackets and sweaters, and to wash their hands regularly. It's also a good time to carefully consider if sending children who show symptoms to school or keeping them home is the right choice. Please refer to my eblast last week on this topic and take all appropriate preventative steps for cold and flu season. Please keep children home if they are ill. Thanks for understanding!

The Secret Garden Gala is this Saturday, February 8th at the Mission Hills Westin and we are nearly SOLD OUT. If you still want to try and get tickets, there are a few left and they can be purchased here. The last day to purchase tickets will be end of business on Wednesday, February 5. The Gala will be an incredible event that you do not want to miss. We will be honoring our Alumni of the Year, Mr. Phillip K. Smith, III ('92) and Mr. Ken Sarkis with a lifetime Achievement award upon his retirement at the end of this year. Lastly, it is an honor to be revealing our official selections for the Gail Gordon Kocen Volunteer of the Year Awards will be given this Saturday to some deserving members of the community. We are pleased to announce the recipients of this year's award are: Cherise Sonderman and Theresa Hall. Please consider joining us on February 8 to honor them if you have not yet purchased your ticket.

Lastly, please visit our online auction to bid on all the incredible items that we have collected and are still adding! The Gala committee this year has been incredible and they are still working to make sure this event is one to remember. The online Auction is open for a little more than a week, but is such an important fundraiser for our school. You can log on and bid here. Additionally, if you are planning to attend the Gala - your online registration to bid ALSO serves as your pre-registration to the actual Gala event itself, so you can skip the registration line the night of - bonus! Log on today, register, and bid away to support our great school. We will be contacting anyone who holds tickets to the Gala, but who is not yet registered this week to get your information. Please help us out by registering online and bid on some great items online while you are at it!

Best,
