Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on decision-making for many families, the Board of Trustees has delayed the date of contract rescission from May 1 to June 15, 2020 for tuition agreements for the 2020-21 school year.
Every year, Palm Valley and our families recommit to each other in the spring so the school can properly plan and hire for the following Fall. While the need to plan this year is no different, we are sensitive to the current uncertain times. By delaying the tuition rescission date this year, we are striving to provide all our families as much time as possible to recommit.
If you have already submitted your contract, it is not necessary to fill out a new contract. This extension is good for everyone who has applied and who will apply. If you have not yet sent in your contract, we urge you to do so as soon as possible. This will help us all work together to make the appropriate decisions regarding staffing for the 20-21 year.
In order to continue to overcome the challenges that confront us in these difficult times, the Board of Trustees for the school has been meeting weekly with Head of School, Mrs. Susan Rice, and incoming Head of School, Dr. Steven Sherman, to prepare a plan that will meet the needs of our students and families. This health crisis will hopefully be behind us soon. In the meantime, we are focused on providing the best options for all our students and families.
While we are all going through some major challenges right now, there are some big wins for PVS. First, our teaching staff and students (and parents) are doing amazing things with Distance Learning. We are one of the few schools in the Valley that have been able to continue educating our students and expect to end the year on track from a learning perspective. Secondly, our high school graduating seniors, this year have been accepted into some of the most competitive schools in the nation: Stanford, Columbia, Penn, USC, UC Berkeley, UCLA, Harvey Mudd, Emory, Bates College, Middlebury College, Johns Hopkins, Occidental, and many others. No other school in the Coachella Valley intrigues these prestigious universities to this degree, year after year! We are an amazing family of families, all working together as we put in the extra time and effort with our children! What could be more important and more rewarding?
Palm Valley School has made some amazing strides despite the challenges and we are very excited for the future of the school.
