Announcement from Head of School, 4/2

Dear Palm Valley Families,

I want to thank each of you for all your efforts at home, your support, and your feedback in our move to Distance Learning. From what I am hearing in the community from friends and neighbors, we have made the transition (almost) seamlessly and continue to improve, whereas many local schools have not yet begun or are unsure if they will be able to implement any program at all for students in the closure. I am particularly grateful for our Faculty who keep this program running so smoothly. Beyond the academics, they go above and beyond every day to find the best ways to keep students and families connected, relationships intact, and to work on Social and Emotional learning, which is especially important in light of COVID-19 and the campus closure.

However, while school and learning have still been in session, the needs of the school organization have been strained these last few weeks. Like most all non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses, we are anticipating more strain for the next several weeks in campus closure through April 30, and potentially beyond. We have been forced to cancel several flagship fundraisers that we had planned this spring and that we host each year, and with our future being uncertain due to no “end date” yet for the campus closure - we are not sure what that may mean for us.

I am reaching out to you today to ask for your help and support. Our promise to you is that we will continue to deliver a high-touch, individualized, and personal academic and socio-emotional program for students. However, with the lost revenue this spring, we need our families to help us in our time of need.

If you are able to return your contract and deposit this week - that will help us to determine staffing and budget for the fall. If you are able to pay your tuition in full, or the first installment (normally due June 1) earlier in either April or May, that would also help the school as we navigate a loss of revenue this spring due to COVID-19 and our mandated campus closure.

Lastly, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a short term fundraising campaign that already has a generous start. The Richard Brooke Foundation, who are already major donors at Palm Valley, have generously given us two grants, one of  which is a $50,000 matching grant for a campaign to inspire others to contribute. So now it’s up to the rest of us to help. The school can recover the lost revenue this spring if you or other family members can DONATE to claim this matching grant and help us to raise a total of $100,000 together. The Board of Trustees and I are all contributing what we can, but we need your help. This will ONLY be possible with your generosity and support. We recognize this is a difficult time to ask for additional donations, but every dollar counts, every gift makes an impact, and we want to DOUBLE your generosity with this matching grant. Please consider a gift today to support students, faculty, and programs that mean so much. Your gift will ensure that our school can continue to thrive in this time of challenge. This matching funds campaign will run from TODAY through May 1, 2020 to help us through the spring. You can donate here and instantly receive double credit with a matched gift from The Richard Brooke Foundation.

We are so grateful for the partnership and support of our families and the generosity of the greater Coachella Valley community. We will get through this temporary challenge with grace, and together, we will meet our goals and aspirations in the shared partnership of educating your children. It is your support in this time of need that will fuel us into a successful next school year. Please consider supporting us with a gift, contract, early tuition payment, etc. today.

Thank you for your consideration,

Susan Rice
