Announcement from Head of School, 3/19

Dear Families, 

I want to thank you for all your supportive emails and phone calls, and for your feedback about how your family is adjusting to Distance Learning and being at home together all day. We recognize that in this format, you are implementing a lot at home that cannot be done remotely by the school. As such, we are working diligently to create more structures and support for your use at home each day in ensuring students are completing work, and progressing in their studies and learning as appropriate. These are uncharted waters, and we are so grateful for your partnership and communication to help us navigate this new process. Please keep the channels of communication open, and send feedback our way when appropriate. 

The Upper School will embark today and tomorrow on two full days of live, synchronous online learning with classmates using Google Meet. Many of the Middle and Upper School classes have already tested this format out, and are meeting regularly and we will be communicating more structure for those live sessions in the coming weeks. I had the pleasure of popping into many classes underway this morning and students are participating, teachers are finding new ways to share information, and it's exciting to see our community learning together in this new way. Our co-synchronous, blended format will allow students to also have opportunities for more self-directed projects and a balance of independent learning alongside live and synchronous teaching. We appreciate your support and partnership. This is a new normal for all of us, and we are laying in a course for the long haul now that the Riverside County Health Department has extended their order for school closure until April 30. As such, please note that our mini-camps for April will be cancelled and fully refunded to you this week. With the new closure extension, we will be running over our Spring Break, which will take place per the regular schedule on April 13-17. Please note Distance Learning will not be taking place that week.

On Monday, March 23, I will be hosting a series of Coffee Talk webinars where I will answer questions that you submit beforehand. Preschool and Lower School Division Coffee at 12 noon, Middle and Upper School at 2 pm. Chances are, if you have a question about the coming weeks of Distance Learning, or other things continuing to happen at the school - others do as well! It's imperative that we work together to solve these challenges in the best interest of children and for our incredible school. In an effort to track communications and see who is out there asking, we will need your RSVP to send you the link to attend the webinar. You can RSVP and ask your questions in advance here for Preschool/Lower School and/or for Middle/Upper School  both of which are also on our Facebook page under "events." A link to the actual event will be sent out Monday morning for anyone who RSVP'd. Thank you for your patience and consideration, I look forward to "seeing" you there!
