In Loving Memory of Mrs. Marilee Uhls

Dear Palm Valley Community,

It is with great sadness that I am reaching out today to let you know that former Palm Valley Music Teacher, Marilee Uhls, passed away recently. Mrs. Marilee Uhls was the Music Director for all grade levels at Palm Valley School from 1972-1996. During her 24 years at PVS, she touched many lives. She was beloved by her students and gave each of them the gift of a music education. Music means so much to us as human beings and whether you perform professionally or just sing along to the radio - it's truly one of the best gifts humanity has.

Mrs. Uhls was appointed in 1972 by then Headmaster Richard Mechlin - you can read the announcement in the 1972 Desert Sun here. Our thoughts are with Mrs. Uhls' family this week and we would love to hear from you if you knew her during your time at Palm Valley School. As this news just came to us recently, a Scholarship was set up in Mrs. Uhls' name to support students in the school where she spent so much time and gave so much love and discipline to the children she taught here. You can give to the Marilee Uhls Scholarship Fund by visiting our giving page and indicating that you wish to give in honor or in memory of Mrs. Uhls. We will also have a memory display of Mrs. Uhls' time at Palm Valley with photos, yearbooks, etc. and more opportunities to contribute to the fund at our Alumni Reunion event next week, on Friday, November 24th from noon to 4 pm. If you would like to join us, please RSVP here.

As a former music student myself who was inspired by my great teachers to become a music teacher in my professional life, I know how impactful Mrs. Uhls was on her students and the legacy in them she leaves behind. We are grateful for her contributions and inspirations. She will live on in the memories of the students she taught, in the hearts she touched, and in the lives, she changed.

With gratitude,

Susan Rice
Head of School
