Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 5/22

Dear Preschool Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Dance Recital and the Art Show on Friday. After a full month of preparations with Ms. Patty, the children put on a fabulous show. We are all so proud of them as it is not easy memorizing those dance routines and then getting up on stage and performing in front of an audience. If you missed the recital, you can view it here.

The Art Show that followed was equally impressive, with each classroom showcasing a wide variety of works from the month-long art curriculum. It was a great morning filled with joy, laughter, music, and art! I want to give a special thanks to Ms. Patty, Mrs. Chaffins, and Mrs. Beach. We relied on their knowledge, expertise, and leadership when executing this event. Thank you to all the guests who attended the shows!

The last day of school is Friday, June 7th. We will be having a special water play day that week to celebrate a wonderful school year. But the fun doesn’t have to stop on June 7th. The preschool is open all summer long! We have a wide variety of sign up options, including single day drop-ins, to accommodate any summer schedule. You also don’t have to be a currently enrolled student to attend summer camp, so spread the word! All registration options for summer camp can be viewed here

Bottles for Martha’s Village & Kitchen
The bottle collection for Martha’s Village & Kitchen is now over. As a reminder, we have been collecting bottles throughout the year for MV. Martha’s Village & Kitchen is one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County. Our maintenance staff has been recycling them for us and we are almost ready to donate all of the money collected this year. We will be presenting MV with a check on Friday, May 24th at our buddy assembly. Thank you to everyone who donated this year. Every little bit counts!

Warm Weather/Sunscreen
As the weather continues to warm, we will be mindful of the amount of time we spend outside to prevent overheating in the children. Our policy is that if the temperature is over 100 degrees the E10 children will only be out for 30 minutes and the E9 children will stay inside. We also ask that parents who want their children to wear sunscreen to please apply it to their child in the morning. We will happily re-apply the sunscreen later in the day if you wish (you must fill out a state form and give us a container of sunscreen that is not expired). Please see me if you have questions.

Angel View Clothing Drive
Let's give a helping hand. Palm Valley School is partnering with Angel View Resale Store the week of May 20th - 24th. Please consider donating your gently used clothing items. Donation bins will be located outside the E-9 building. *Angel View will ONLY accept clothing item donations for the purposes of this drive. All items will be picked up on Friday, May 24th at noon. We will not accept donations after that time.

Volunteer and Donor Breakfast
Whether you served hot chocolate in the Lower School during the Ugly Sweater Parade, helped the Preschool on Safety Day, provided snacks for the MS and US plays, drove students for a field trip, donated on #GivingTuesday, or prepped flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week - we want to THANK YOU for all that you do! Please join us for our Volunteer & Donor Appreciation Breakfast in the gym on Friday, May 31st at 8 am.

Please join us at our most important school community event of the year!
