Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 5/15

Dear Preschool Families,

This Friday is the Dance/Art show for the children in the E10 building. The children are so excited to perform and show their grown-ups all of the wonderful artwork they have created this month.  Read below for more details on the event.

The E10 Dance/Art show is coming up this Friday, May 17th. All E10 families should plan to be in the gym before the show starts at 10 am. Once the show is over, we will head down to E10 for light refreshments and a special exhibition of the wonderful art pieces the children have been working on this last month. We ask that all parents walk past the E10 building and proceed to the yard in the back (through the side gates). The children and the teachers will need a few minutes to change and get ready for the Art exhibition. Once they are ready we will open our back doors and invite parents in to view the show. The event should conclude before noon. While many families choose to take their children with them once the show is over, it is still a full day with pizza lunch and After-Care offered until 5:30 pm.

Important dates/times for dance/art show:

  • Thursday, May 16th - Arrive to school by 8 am - Rehearsal, 8:30 am-10:15 am.
  • The Dance/Art show is on Friday, May 17th at 10 am.
  • Children should arrive to school on this day at 8:30 am.
  • The show should be over no later than 11:30 am.

Bottles for Martha’s Village & Kitchen
We are making one last push for bottle donations for Martha’s Village & Kitchen. As a reminder, we have been collecting bottles throughout the year for MV. Martha’s Village & Kitchen is one of the largest providers of homeless services in the Coachella Valley and Riverside County. Our maintenance staff has been recycling them for us and we are almost ready to donate all of the money collected this year. The last day to turn in any bottles is Friday, May 17th. We will be presenting MV with a check on Friday, May 24th at our buddy assembly.  Thank you to everyone who donated this year.  Every little bit counts!

Warm Weather/Sunscreen
As the weather continues to warm, we will be mindful of the amount of time we spend outside to prevent overheating in the children. Our policy is that if the temperature is over 100 degrees the E10 children will only be out for 30 minutes and the E9 children will stay inside. We also ask that parents who want their children to wear sunscreen to please apply it to their child in the morning. We will happily re-apply the sunscreen later in the day if you wish (you must fill out a state form and give us a container of sunscreen that is not expired). Please see me if you have questions.

Angel View Clothing Drive
Let's give a helping hand. Palm Valley School is partnering with Angel View Resale Store the week of May 20th - 24th. Please consider donating your gently used clothing items. Donation bins will be located in each division. *Angel View will ONLY accept clothing item donations for the purposes of this drive. All items will be picked up on Friday, May 24th at noon. We will not accept donations after that time.

May Dinner Out
Our last dinner fundraiser of the year is taking place on Tuesday, May 21st at CPK on El Paseo. A previous flyer went out with an incorrect date of May 22nd.  The correct date is Tuesday, May 21st.
