Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 2/27

Dear Preschool Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the February break. We had a great group of kids in mini-camp last week and we hope you can join us for the next one. As a reminder, we usually run mini-camps in the Preschool on any days that we do not have a regular class schedule. You can view and sign up upcoming camps, at www.pvs.org/camps. The next mini-camp is Wednesday, March 6th, during Parent-Teacher conference day.

Sign-ups are now posted outside the classrooms for Parent-Teacher Conferences on March 6th. Please sign up for a time as soon as possible as there are limited slots for the day. If you have a conflict please speak to your classroom lead teacher to schedule another day/time for a conference. Conferences are an important part of your child’s education. Young children do best when there is a strong home-school connection and these conferences are an excellent way to continue to build that bridge. We will also be operating a one day Mini Camp that day. To sign up your child, please click here. We are also happy to take children into care at no cost, but only during your scheduled conference times.

Read Across America Day is this Friday, March 1st. In previous years, we have focused solely on Dr. Seuss characters and books since this national celebration coincides with his birthday. This year, in keeping with our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we will be reading a wide variety of books!

New Lead Information Law
Effective January 1, 2019, AB 2370, Chapter 676, Statutes of 2018, requires all child care providers, upon enrolling or re-enrolling any child, to provide the parent or guardian with written information including the following:

  • Risks and effects of lead exposure.
  • Blood lead testing recommendations and requirements.
  • Options for obtaining blood lead testing, including any programs that offer free or discounted tests.

We will be distributing information pamphlets this week as this is a new legal requirement in the state of California. This is a required announcement, but there is absolutely NO LEAD is the Palm Valley Preschool. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Best,

Mr. Klausz
