Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 11/28

Dear Preschool Families,

Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving break. We have so much to be thankful for as a community: a great school, a wonderful faculty, and amazing children. These are all things that we may take for granted from time to time, so I think it is important to stop and appreciate how amazing our community is here at Palm Valley School. Speaking of amazing, I am overwhelmed by your generosity with our California Fire Relief Item Drive. We had so many donations that we had to add extra bins and make multiple trips to drop off all of the items. Thank you again to all who donated!

Traditions Month is approaching in the Preschool. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to share one of their family traditions. For this month, each classroom invites their families to come in and share a special tradition. The sharing of ideas, traditions, and cultures is so important as it reinforces the concept of home culture being welcome in school. Children do better when they feel at home at school. They are able to build off the emotional and intellectual foundation that was started at home. If you have the time please consider sharing with your child’s classroom. A flyer was sent home before the break with specific details for each class as well as information on how you can sign up. We hope you are able to join us this coming month in celebrating the uniqueness of every family in our community.

On Monday we were fortunate to have a visit from one of our local Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Bird Singers, John Preckwinkle III, Chairman of the Cahuilla Cultural Preservation Committee. He shared Indian creation stories and songs with the children and introduced them to a special game that is played in their community. The children in the E-10 building loved learning from Mr. John and we are so grateful for his visit.
