Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 10/24

Dear Families,

The weather is cooling off and with it comes many new opportunities to explore and discover outside. One of the downsides to the colder weather this time of year is that we tend to see an increase in illnesses. We have had a wave of fevers and runny noses in the Preschool. In order to keep our community healthy, we ask that all families follow our guidelines regarding illness. All children must be fever free for 24 hours, without medication, to return to school. Rashes, stomach issues, etc. must also be cleared up before a child returns to school. It is always a good idea to have your child see a doctor if they are sick. The doctor can give you the best information about the illness and can also clear your child to return to school. We ask that if your child does become ill that you let us know the diagnosis. If there are certain illnesses/diseases running through our center, letting us know enables us to take additional preventative measures to hopefully stop it from spreading. Thank you in advance for helping us stay healthy.

Fall Festival
We still need volunteers to help out, sign up for an activity here. There are games, booths, a costume contest, and activities for all ages and admission is FREE! This event is open to the public, so invite your neighbors and friends to attend, too - RSVP today.

Halloween
Where: PVS
When: Wednesday, October 31st at 8:20 am
Who: Hummingbirds, Quails, Coyotes, Jackrabbits

This year Halloween is on Wednesday, October 31st. Pre-Kindergarten and Hummingbird students (E-10 building + Hummingbirds) will attend a special Buddy Program assembly in the morning. Parents are encouraged to attend this assembly. At the end of the assembly, the students and their big buddies will parade their costumes for parents on the paved sidewalk outside of the gym towards the athletic field and then back into the Middle School where they will be able to trick-or-treat at all of the decorated doors! Room Parents are also working with the classroom teachers on plans for a healthy Halloween treat in the afternoon. They will be sending parent information via Shutterfly. Please note, we do encourage students to dress up on this day, but there are important costume guidelines that should be followed: no blood, no masks, no hand-held items (including weapons, wands, etc), and no full face makeup/paint. Students must wear their normal shoes for the entire day. The Caterpillars and Crickets will not participate in assembly or the parade and instead will have their own special classroom celebrations. We want all of our students to enjoy this special day at school, and we thank you in advance for adhering to the policies and procedures of this day so that we can make this a safe and fun Halloween.

Special note for Hummingbirds: We are going to try and bring our Hummingbird friends to the assembly so that they can parade and participate in the trick or treating activity. We need chaperones to hold hands with each of our Hummingbirds the whole time. If you are interested in helping chaperone this group please see me or the Hummingbird teachers.
