Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 10/10

Dear Families,

I hope you had a great long weekend. The weather is starting to turn, which means there will be more opportunities for us to go outside during the day. Now is a good time to check in with the teachers to see if your child has the proper footwear for water activities as well as enough changes of clothes. We want the children actively engaged and in order to do that they will need to get messy!

I hope everyone enjoyed the parent-teacher conferences. We are still collecting feedback about these meetings. Please take a moment to fill out this brief, anonymous survey to help us improve our practice: click here to fill out the survey.

We will be continuing to use Shutterfly this year for PA/parent communication and picture posting. A permission form was sent home this Friday. It is important that everyone fills this out ASAP and returns it to your classroom teacher. This will allow us to take and share photographs of your child on Shutterfly. Thank you in advance for your help with this!

Open House
Our first Admissions Open House is scheduled for this Sunday, October 14th from 1-3pm. Invite your friends to learn more about our school. Thank you in advance for spreading the word! RSVP at www.pvs.org/openhouse.

Safety Day
Safety Day is scheduled for next Wednesday, October 17th at 9:00 am. The Riverside County Sheriff's Department and The Rancho Mirage Fire Department will be on hand with all of their vehicles and equipment to teach the children about their roles in keeping all of us safe. This is also our first Room Parent volunteer event. If you are interested in helping out during Safety Day, please fill out this volunteer survey. As a thank you, we would like to provide our first responders with a box of goodies to take home. If you are so inclined, we would very much appreciate your participation. You will be asked to sign up for what you would like to bring. All donations must be received by Tuesday, October 16th. As the date comes closer, we will provide you with more information. We are looking for Gatorade, bottled water, instant coffee packs, jerky, and protein or granola bars. If you would like to help we will have sign up sheets and donation boxes in each building. This will also help make sure we don’t get too much of one thing. Thank you in advance for all your support!

The Great ShakeOut
We are participating in the "Great California Shakeout" on Thursday, October 18th at 10:18 am. This is a time where most schools, government offices, and many businesses practice what to do in an earthquake. Our students and teachers will practice "duck, cover, and hold," along with our all-school evacuation procedure. For more information, visit https://www.shakeout.org/california/.
