Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 1/30

Dear Preschool Families,

The weather is warm and the students are healthy! This has been a great week thus far as we seem to have turned a corner with the illnesses going around. The temperatures are also enabling us to spend a little more time outside! On Monday, the PK classes were able to enjoy their lunch outside.

I have been making the rounds baking bread with each class these last few weeks.  It has been so wonderful for me to be working directly with all of your children. They are all great bakers and, I think, have thoroughly enjoyed our no-knead bread.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
Mark your calendars for a complimentary screening of the film, Won’t You Be My Neighbor? on Tuesday, February 5th at 5:00 pm in the MPR. This film chronicles the life of Fred Rogers and how he tried to make a positive impact on young children through his messages of empathy, compassion, honesty, and kindness. This showing is for adults only (no childcare provided), and there will be a short Q & A after the conclusion of the film. RSVP here. It is open to the public, so invite your friends!

#FeedtheFire Classroom Competition
There are just 2 DAYS LEFT to make your donation toward qualifying for our Family Ice Cream Social this Friday, February 1st!  You can give in person by visiting the Business Office or online at www.pvs.org/support-pvs/annual-fund. Currently, our 10th grade class is in the lead with 63%, followed closely by Kindergarten at 61%.

Move Up Day
Move Up Day is Friday, February 8th. All of our PK children will get a chance to visit the Kindergarten class to meet the teachers and learn all about Lower School! We would also like to invite any interested parents to join us on that day to learn more about Kindergarten and Lower School.

Here is the schedule for parents:

  • Pre-K families are invited to attend the all-school assembly at 8:20 am.
  • After the assembly, PK parents will walk down to LS with Ms. Markel, Mrs. Fisher, and Mr. Klausz.
  • There will be a short Q & A about the differences between Preschool and Lower School and the program in general.
  • We will conclude with a tour of the LS Campus.

Please be aware that we have mixed age groups in the PK and not all of our students in Jackrabbits and Coyotes will be progressing to Kindergarten next year. To avoid confusion, all Coyotes and Jackrabbits will be visiting the Kindergarten on this day, regardless if they are entering K the following year or not. If you have questions regarding your child’s placement please feel free to contact me to set up a meeting.

Valentine’s Day
We will be celebrating Valentine's Day in the classroom on Thursday, February 14th. We would like this to be a fun and educational experience for the children, and we ask that if you choose to celebrate the holiday you follow the following guidelines: (1) No treats, candy or anything edible. (2) If you choose to give out cards please make one for every child in the class. The full one-page guidelines for PVS Valentine's day can be viewed here (a hard copy will also be sent home this week).

Yearbook
Order your Yearbook online for $50. The price will go up as we get closer to the end of the school year, so don’t delay! Visit ybpay.lifetouch.com and use Palm Valley School’s code: 12453419.

February Dinner Out Event
Our next dinner out event is coming up Wednesday, February 13th at The Slice - Rancho Mirage. Present the flyer or mention Palm Valley School and 20% of your purchase will benefit the Parent Association. Valid for dine-in and takeout from 11 am - close.

Best,

Mr. Klausz
