Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 5/6

Hello Preschool Families,

I hope everyone is doing well and adjusting as we continue Distance Learning. I want to encourage all of our Preschool families to participate in our weekly Google Hangouts. This is a great time for our students to see one another and complete a check-in with me. I always start off these hangouts by reading a book and then ask each child to share something. My hope is that this will continue to build what we have taught our students about public speaking.

I received many photos from families who completed the Lego challenge. You all did an excellent job! I asked our students to build an object out of Legos and make it float in water. I saw some great objects being made! This small, but meaningful lesson promotes fine motor skills, problem-solving, and planning development. Be sure to be on the lookout for the next LEGO CHALLENGE!

Sesame Street put together this video about social distancing for young children! It is a great resource if your child is asking questions about what it means to be social distancing. Sesame Street also has a great activity to help children with managing their emotions. It’s called The Spotlight Game. If your child is struggling with their emotions and you want to try a visual game to help calm them down, this is an excellent activity! I will continue to share these resources with you as I find them.

Due to COVID-19, Palm Valley School has delayed the date of contract rescission from May 1 to June 15, 2020 for tuition agreements for the 2020-21 school year. I will be contacting families this week to check in and answer any questions you may have going into the new school year. Please know that you can email myself, kbeach@pvs.org or Abby Sturgeon, asturgeon@pvs.org at any time to have your questions answered.

We are still participating in Box Tops for Education. If you have not yet done so, download the app and scan your receipt within 14 days of purchase. You don't need to know which products are eligible; the app does it all! Sarah Dunn is our Palm Valley School Box Tops for Education Coordinator. Feel free to reach out to her if you have any questions: dienys@hotmail.com. You can also choose Palm Valley when making Amazon purchases. Go to smile.amazon.com. When you select PVS, we receive a small percentage of your purchase.

Please join me in giving a warm Palm Valley School welcome to our new Head of School, Dr. Steve Sherman, who began his tenure yesterday. We’re excited about his vision for the school’s future and eager to be a part of it.
