Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 3/11

Dear Preschool Families,

I have been receiving many questions about our Preschool specifically and what we are doing for sanitation. I want to assure everyone that we are deep-cleaning our classrooms and materials daily. We are also ensuring that our students and faculty wash their hands often. We have made washing hands a fun activity by singing songs to help our students remember the correct recommended length of time for washing their hands. We are encouraging our students to share these songs with you at home. We have provided a link for you to use as a resource for guidance at home and at school to use to address and reduce the risk of exposure of COVID-19 to others.

As Mrs. Rice announced earlier this week, we are postponing our Grandparents & Special Friend’s Day to a later date. March 13 will still be an early release day at 12:00 pm with after-care provided for those who need it. I also want to remind parents that pizza will not be served this Friday. For easy access, Palm Valley School has set up a webpage with all these communications, announcements, and resources as we continue to address this situation(https://pvs.org/covid19). Please do not hesitate to come to me or Mrs. Rice directly if any questions come up.

I would like to introduce Ms. Samantha Hakim to our parents. She will be helping out in our E10 Pre-Kindergarten building for the remainder of the school year as a substitute. Ms. Hakim has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bank Street Graduate School of Education, New York. She has experience teaching children as young as 2-year-olds all the way up to 2nd graders. We are very excited to have her join our substitute list. She will be joining us starting on Monday, March 16th.

Scholastic Book Fair
Tomorrow, Thursday, March 12th, our Preschool families are invited from 8:00 am- 8:30 am to visit the Scholastic Book Fair which is located in the Kindergarten building on our Lower School campus. The regular book fair hours are listed below. Each of our classrooms has a wish list bin at the Book Fair so that parents and families can buy books picked out for individual classrooms.

Spring Photoshoot with Rebecca Kirkpatrick
On March 19th, 2020, Mrs. Kirkpatrick will be set up next to the E9 building again doing Spring Photos. She will be set up from 7:30 am-9:30 am to help accommodate times during drop off. The cost is $75 per family and $25 of that fee will go directly to our Preschool. You will be getting 10 pictures that will be sent to you via Dropbox using the email address you provide. Parents or authorized adults will need to be present to sign children out of the Preschool, take them to the photoshoot (on-campus, near the preschool) and return them to their class, for photoshoot participation. School personnel cannot take students to and from the photo location. If you have any questions, please contact Rebecca Kirkpatrick directly at 760.898.8508.

Each of the four PVS divisions (Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School) is represented, so there is probably someone you and your student know bravely taking their turn in the spotlight to benefit the school. Come enjoy an evening of fun, fashion and family and offer your support to them and Palm Valley!
