Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 2/26

Dear Preschool Families,

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone enjoyed their well-deserved February Break. Our Preschool Mini-Camp was widely popular during this past week. We actually had to close registration due to high enrollment during the break. I encourage all of our families to review our school’s calendar that is located on our website for all upcoming events and breaks. I would also like to let our families know that we have several new substitutes starting with us in the next month. I am confident that they will be a great addition to our faculty. I do want to assure our families that if any changes to classroom Lead teachers are made, families will be made aware immediately. However, I do not anticipate this happening in the near future.

This next month, our theme is Gardening and Insects. This is a student favorite! Our students have already started to plant seeds inside their classrooms as well as in their playground garden beds. We will also be learning about insects and how they affect our gardens and the environment around us.

On Wednesday, March 4th, 2020, we will be holding our 2nd Parent/Teacher Conference. If you haven’t already, please sign up for a time-slot to make sure you are able to have the opportunity to sit one-on-one with your child’s teacher and ask any questions you may have about student development. This is also a great time to talk about the transition to the next school year and what that entails. We will be providing a Mini-Camp that day. Please register using this link as soon as possible before spaces fill up. We will also provide care as a courtesy for your child while you are in a conference with your child’s teacher.

The following Monday, March 9th2020 is Professional Development Day. Palm Valley School is CLOSED. We will be providing a Mini-Camp but space is limited in each age group. Please register as soon as possible.

Grandparents and Special Friends Day is coming up, Friday, March 13th! On this day, we will be inviting all our Grandparents and Special Friends to come in for a light breakfast provided by our Parents Association as well as a performance by our E10 students and Lower School. Quails, Coyotes, and Jackrabbits will be required to wear formal dress uniforms this day for their performance. After the performance, we will invite our families and friends back to our classrooms to a small craft. Grandparents and Special Friends Day is an EARLY RELEASE DAY. The school day will be over at 12:00 noon. After-care will be available from 12:00 pm-5:30 pm for Preschool and Lower School students for an extra charge. The Spirit Store will be open from 8:00 am-10:00 am for the convenience of our families.

Scholastic Book Fair
Our Annual Scholastic Bookfair will be held on March 10th - 13th. Proceeds help build classroom libraries for teachers in PS-5th grade. We need volunteers to help! There are opportunities to assist with set-up, breakdown, and staffing. Please email Mrs. Fisher: ffisher@pvs.org if you can help.

Lost and Found
Please remember to label your students’ winter jackets. We have had several appear unlabeled in lost and found.  Items that have been left around campus will be on display in the lobby of both Preschool buildings for the next week. Items that aren’t claimed will be disposed of and/or donated to the spirit store.

Upper School Play: The Firebird
Palm Valley Theater Department presents The Firebird. The play has been created specifically for Palm Valley students, incorporating their unique talents. The production examines a young person’s quest for self-discovery while passing into, through, and out of our wondrous planetary existence. Prepare to be entertained, provoked and inspired, all at the same time, in an audio-visual experience of spiritual delight. Put the dates on your calendar and spread the word about the FIREBIRD! Get your tickets before they get sold out using this link!

March 20, 21, 26, 27 and 28th at 7:30 pm
March 22, Matinee at 2:30 pm

El Paseo Fashion Week
We're excited to announce that the six student models are now set for the night on the runway presented by Palm Springs Life, Palm Valley School and Animal Samaritans at the Le Chien fashion show on March 22, 2020. Each of the four PVS divisions (Preschool, Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School) is represented, so there is probably someone you and your student know bravely taking their turn in the spotlight to benefit the school. Come enjoy an evening of fun, fashion and family and offer your support to them and Palm Valley!
