Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 11/20

Dear Preschool Families,

I cannot believe Thanksgiving break is already approaching. The first part of the school year has gone by extremely fast and was a ton of fun. Our students were able to learn about their communities, different forms of transportation, desert theme topics, and we are finishing out the 2019 year off with traditions! Each year, we invite families to come into our classrooms and share their traditions with our students. We have had many different cultural experiences provided by families. Some students discover they share the same traditions, while others are completely different. This is a great time for our students to learn from each other. We urge all of our families to participate.

I do want to give an important reminder to our families that if your child is actively walking, they must come to school with socks and sneakers on. This is a policy purely based on the safety of each of our students. Sneakers and socks will protect their little feet from rocks, sand, stubbing toes and so much more. Teachers will be giving reminders to parents if students come to school in an alternative type of shoe. Please help me in ensuring this policy is being followed.

Tomorrow, we have one of our Pre-Kindergarten parents coming to share their tradition from their community, the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, which will include Cahuilla birdsongs and dancing. Their group is called Pàiniktem. Our Coyotes and Jackrabbits are extremely excited to watch and learn from this tradition with their friends. Thank you to the Arviso family for sharing your culture with our students and faculty. We truly appreciate it.

This coming Friday, Animal Samaritans will be coming to visit our E10 building. Animal Samaritans Humane Education program is based on a philosophy dedicated to the principle of creating kinder communities through kindness to animals. Every year they educate more than 12,000 children in schools.  Their unique program’s effective curricula are helping to create a new generation of citizens who understand both how and why to treat other living beings with respect. During this presentation, our students will learn about how to take care of different pets and animals as well as how and when they are allowed to approach animals who are not their own pets. This is a great program we include each school year and it is definitely a favorite amongst our E10 students.

If you are in need of childcare next week during Thanksgiving Break, please register in advance using our Eventbrite page. We will be holding Mini-Camp days covering November 25th-27th. If you do not register in advance, the fee goes go up closer to the event date. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me directly.

Annual Fund
Each year, the Palm Valley School community contributes to enhancing the education of our Firebirds through the Annual Fund.  There is always a 100% participation from members of the Board of Trustees and from PVS staff members showing their Firebird pride.  This annual fund is important to our students and families at Palm Valley. Please remember to submit your contribution or gift in kind.  Please click on the link to give today!
