Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 11/13

Dear Preschool Families,

The Veteran’s Day song this past Monday was our very first performance for our E10 students this school year. Palm Valley School has always done an unbelievably great job at recognizing our Veterans and teaching our students the value of our military and how to give thanks. Our students in the Quails, Coyotes and Jackrabbits classrooms did an outstanding job singing their song with help from our preschool faculty and Mr. Kay, our music director on campus. Thank you to all our families who came to our Veterans Day celebration and thank you to all our veterans.

During the month of November, all of our classes in the Preschool are learning about desert animals. This theme is special because it is the theme most connected to our home here in the desert. Since we started teaching about desert animals, I have seen many of our students talking about horned lizards, jackrabbits, rattlesnakes and so much more. It is always such a pleasure watching your children grow in our program and having the opportunity to listen to what they are learning about in their classrooms.

We have many students who have been staying home sick over the past week or so. I want to thank our parents for understanding the importance of this and ensuring they do not bring their sick children to school. Our sick policy is strict to ensure we do not expose other students to different illnesses, especially during this time of year when colds and flu are going around. Our faculty has been doing a great job with sanitizing their classrooms throughout the day to ensure the spread of illnesses is limited. A reminder that our policy is that students with a fever over 100 degrees must stay home until they are 24 hours fever free without the use of medication before returning to school again. For other contagious illnesses without fever (rashes, etc) please call for specific policies. The health and safety of all of our students is extremely important to us.

One of our goals in our Preschool/Pre-K program are to expose our students to different cultures and different traditions of other families. Our monthly traditions theme for December is one of the ways we try to accomplish this. We would like to offer our school families the opportunity to share any family tradition you would like. It does not have to be holiday-related. Sign up sheets are displayed in each classroom, so please sign up as soon as possible. We are excited to learn more about each of our families!  Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about these presentations and also to make sure that if you bring in food related traditions, we can let you know of any relevant classroom allergies.

Toilet Training Class
This Saturday, I have the pleasure to be working with Mrs. Traub at our Toilet Training Class here at Palm Valley School from 10:00 am -12:00 am in the MPR in Middle School. This class is completely free and open to the community. Mrs. Traub and I will be talking about all kinds of tricks and trades which we have learned over the years in early childhood education as well as our experience as parents who have successfully accomplished toilet training. We will also discuss the techniques that we use here at Palm Valley Preschool. Please RSVP to our event using this link.

Keedy’s Fountain & Grill
For the months of November and December, Keedy's Fountain & Grill in Palm Desert will be honoring Palm Valley School by giving all our students and staff a special discount for dining with them. You do not need to register or sign up for this offer, just simply come into the restaurant any day with your school ID and/or spirit wear and you will receive 20% off your entire bill. Thank you to Keedy’s Fountain & Grill for this recognition and discount.

Box Tops for Education
Did you know that Box Tops for Education is now digital? The company is slowly phasing out the actual "cut-outs" from their products.  Just download the app and scan receipt(s) within 14 days of purchase to earn cash for Palm Valley School. Box Tops has great incentives for families that shop at Costco, Walmart, Stater Brothers, Food for Less, etc... There are many new products on their list, but you don't need to know what products are eligible.  When you scan your receipt in the 14-day period, the app does all the work for you. Once scanned, it will show what purchased products were eligible for earning cash, how much was earned by the individual user and the total earned for Palm Valley School. Don’t forget to tell the whole family so anyone who shops can earn for Palm Valley School! If you have questions, our Palm Valley School Box Tops for Education Coordinator is Sarah Dunn, dienys@hotmail.com (You may still drop off any box tops cutouts that are not expired in the designated Box Top box located in each of our preschool buildings.)
