Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 10/16

Dear Preschool Families,

We are having such an exciting week in our Preschool. We had Captain Mark Beach, who is a fireman, visit our PreKindergarten classes today to answer any and all questions they have about what is it like to be a fireman. He talked about safety and what to do in a fire and so much more. Our students fully enjoyed the discussion with Captain Mark Beach and we are thankful to have him come out and speak to our students. This Friday, we have a K9 demonstration for our entire E10 building. I want to thank Dr. Judith Yee for helping to set up this demonstration with Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Pat Mushinskie with K-9 partner, 'Rio'! We are thankful for the parents that we have within our school who can help enrich student learning through the community around us.

Today, the first dance classes of the school year with Miss Patty started in the E10 Building. She will be instructing dance classes once a week until the end of the school year. Dance is a great way for your child to be physically active, improve balance, develop spatial awareness, and be introduced to rhythm, as well as spark creativity. We are thankful to have Miss Patty join us again this year and cannot wait to see our students participating in our annual Preschool Dance Show at the end of the school year.

I want to give a reminder to our parents/guardians that you are not allowed to park or briefly stop to exit your vehicle alongside any red curbs or marked zones on campus. This can pose several safety issues, including fire code violations, on campus.  I will continue to address directly any families that continue to do this.

Great California ShakeOut
This Thursday, we are participating in The Great California ShakeOut Drill which takes place annually on October 17th, at 10:17 am. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn about safety during an earthquake. We have been speaking to our students for the past several weeks about how to Stop, Cover and Hold On! I encourage all of our families to make a safety plan at home and talk to your children about what to do during earthquakes at home.

Preschool Coffee Hour
Please come join me and fellow preschool parents! I want to invite all of you to come to our first Preschool Coffee Hour this Friday, October 18th at 8:15 am in the E-10 building. We will be discussing upcoming events as well as answering any questions you may have about the Preschool in general. I urge all of our parents to please take time out of your day and join us. This is a great opportunity to meet other parents as well as get to know me as your Head of Preschool.  Bring the questions and I will supply the coffee!

Safety Day
We have our annual Safety Day scheduled this month for October, 21st, 2019 from 9:00 am-10:30 am. Similar to last year, only our E10 Quails, Coyotes, and Jackrabbits will be participating in this event during the school day. We also give a care package to the Fire Department and the Sheriff Department as a thank you for sharing their expertise and careers with our students each year. There is a sign-up sheet for all who would like to contribute donations which are located on the front table in the E10 PK building.

Educational Funding Solutions Night
Mark your calendars and plan on attending the Effective Financial Planning Night, presented by Dennis Stewart of Educational Funding Solutions on Thursday, October 24th at 5:30 pm in the MPR. This informative meeting will show how to develop a plan to meet your children’s college education and your retirement needs.

55th Annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade
We would like to invite our PVS students and families to participate in the 55th Annual Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade with PVS! The parade and festival will take place on Sunday, October 27th, 2019. We encourage all students and families to participate in the parade by walking with our group. The theme this year is Let the Good Times Roll, and 50’s and 60’s style costumes are encouraged. Meet at the Bank of America at 10:30 am if you plan on walking in the parade. You can email Abby Sturgeon at asturgeon@pvs.org for more information!
