Weekly Notes from Preschool Director, 1/8

Dear Preschool Families,

Happy New Year and welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable break. 2019 was a great year, but 2020 is going to be even better. It felt like the first week of school again as all of us are still getting back into the routine and schedule of the school day. Our enrollment is still blossoming inside our Preschool, as we have 5 new students starting this next month! I am proud of how much we have grown since I started working at Palm Valley School in Fall 2016. Our faculty have shown such dedication to your children and I am pleased with the work we will continue to accomplish throughout this school year.

The month of January is such a fun curriculum month. We are covering health! We will be discussing our bodies and how we can take care of them; learning how exercise is key and understanding that what we eat is also extremely important. We will also be discussing mental health with our preschoolers. We will talk about our emotions and what they mean and how to navigate our emotions through regulation strategies. I invite you to start talking to your child about these topics throughout the month in January!

This week, the Chair of the Head of School Search Committee, Mrs. Cherise Sonderman has invited parents to meet the first of three candidates for our next Head of School. Each week, you will be invited to meet one candidate and give feedback to the Search Committee. This Friday, January 10th, the first Parent Open Forum will be held in the MPR at 8:35 am-9:45 am and a second forum will be later that evening from 5:15 pm-6:15 pm at the same location. I encourage all of our families to attend and participate in these meetings.

Move-Up Day
On Friday, January 24th, 2020, we invite the parents of students who will be 5 years old before the next school year to join us in our Annual Move-Up Day. We will have you gather in the Gym at 8:20 am for our All School Assembly and then walk down to Lower School to start a tour with Mrs. Francene Fisher, the Head of Lower School. Parents will be able to ask questions and learn more about our amazing Kindergarten program here at Palm Valley School! Later the same day, we will take our eligible students to Lower School as well. They will get the opportunity to meet our Kindergarten teachers and specialists such as our Music Director, Mr. Paul Kay. I encourage all of our potential future Kindergarten parents to join us on this day! I will be joining as not only the Head of Preschool but also as a future kindergarten mom!

Desert Friends of John Tracy Center Hearing Screening
Desert Friends of John Tracy Center conducts free hearing screenings at local preschools. If your child is 3 years old, they will get the opportunity to be screened by them. We have sent out the permission slips for you to sign., Please ensure you sign and return them as soon as possible. We have three different dates scheduled for the screenings, starting on January 13th.
