Dear Preschool Families,
As we continue with the curriculum focus of learning about our bodies and how to keep them healthy in all aspects, we have also talked about kindness. We keep reminding our students that we have a kindness tree in our hallway in our E10 building. We have been continuously adding kindness leaves (describing acts of kindness by students) with our goal to get to 100 leaves by our 100th day of school, February 11th! I urge all of our families to continue talking about kindness in your homes and what that may look like at school and within our community.
I have a few gentle reminders for our families as we enter the second half of the school year. Please ensure your child arrives at school wearing sneakers. Boots, heels, sandals, crocs are not permitted and are not really safe for our students to wear at school. Please note that athletic shoes must also be paired with socks.
Please also remember and respect that although we love seeing the siblings of our current students join you at drop off and pick up, it is imperative that older children do not play on our playground equipment or with our toys. This is not only a safety concern but also a CA State Licensing policy, each student must be enrolled in our specific division in order to use our age-appropriate equipment inside and outside on our premises. We will be giving gentle reminders about this if we see this happening going forward.
On Monday, we had Desert Friends with John Tracey come out to start their first round of hearing screenings for students who are three years of age or older. We will be finishing up these screenings this Friday and hope to have the results sent home the same day. This is perfect timing as well to talk to our students about their senses and how important all five of them are and in what ways we use them daily.
Thank you to all our parents who came to meet the first candidate for our Head of School search. The same forums and times will take place this week for the second candidate. Please remember to fill out a feedback survey at the end of each forum. This Friday, January 17th, the second candidate Parent Open Forum will be held in the MPR at 8:35 am-9:45 am and a second forum will be later that evening from 5:15 pm-6:15 pm at the same location. I encourage all of our families to attend and participate in these meetings.
We are closed on Monday, January 20th for Martin Luther King Day. Mini-Camps will not be provided this day.
On Friday, January 24th, 2020, we invite the parents of students who will be 5 years old before the next school year to join us in an exciting event, our Annual Move-Up Day. We will have you gather in the Gym at 8:20 am for our All School Assembly and then walk down to Lower School to start a tour with Mrs. Francene Fisher, the Head of Lower School. Parents will be able to ask questions and learn more about our amazing Kindergarten program here at Palm Valley School!
