Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool, 5/29

Dear Preschool Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend! It is the end of May and the end of the school year is just around the corner. You may have noticed your child(ren) testing limits and struggling to follow directions. This is very typical behavior often seen just before a school year finishes. As we start to say hello to summer we want to give everyone a few last reminders.

Keep the schedule predictable. Children do best when they know what is coming. The excitement of the unknown can create anxiety in young children.

Give specific answers to specific questions. Consider how you answer your child’s questions. Do so in a way that is short and to the point since long answers tend to create more questions than they answer.

Consider keeping a calendar at home. If your child is old enough to read one, it will help them predict and plan for what is coming.
As always, if you feel that you need help with your child’s change in behavior, please feel free to reach out to us. We would love to help!

Volunteer and Donor Breakfast
Whether you served hot chocolate in the Lower School during the Ugly Sweater Parade, helped the Preschool on Safety Day, provided snacks for the MS and US plays, drove students for a field trip, donated on #GivingTuesday, or prepped flowers for Teacher Appreciation Week - we want to THANK YOU for all that you do! Please join us for our Volunteer & Donor Appreciation Breakfast in the gym on Friday, May 31st at 8 am.

PS Water Play Day
We will have a special outdoor water play day on the morning of June 6th to celebrate the year. We will have water stations set up on both playgrounds. A special thanks to Mrs. Gray and all the parent volunteers who will help us set up and clean up this day. Please see me if you would like to volunteer. For this day all students should:

  • Arrive in a bathing suit
  • Arrive with sunscreen lotion already applied
  • Bring a change of clothes and a towel
  • Bring water shoes (if they don’t have them at school already)

PK Graduation
We will have a Pre Kindergarten Graduation ceremony for those families whose children will be entering Kindergarten next year. Those families have already received a notice about the ceremony. The ceremony will take place on June 7th at 10 am. Coyotes and Jackrabbits who are not moving to Kindergarten next year will have a special time in the classroom while their friends move up.

Graduation and Promotion
Please join us at our most important school community event of the year! We will be celebrating the Graduation of the Class of 2019, as well as the promotion of the 8th and 5th-grade classes, at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort, 44-600 Indian Wells Ln, Indian Wells at 6 pm on Thursday, June 6th.

Summer Camp
The last day of school is Friday, June 7th, but the fun doesn’t have to stop. The preschool is open all summer long! We have a wide variety of sign-up choices, including single day drop-ins, and half-day options, to accommodate any summer schedule. You also don’t have to be a currently enrolled PVS student to attend summer camp, so spread the word!
