Weekly Notes from Head of Preschool, 9/4

Dear Preschool Families,

It has been a wonderful start for the school year! All of our children are adjusting nicely to the new routine of the school day. It is such a joy to see old friends reconnecting and new friendships developing. As we all settle into the routine of the school year, I want to stress how important it is to build a consistent schedule for your child. Children do best when they can predict what is next. Building this familiarity is extremely important to your child’s success in school. I have enjoyed seeing returning students, as well as new students, make connections with their new teachers and friends.

Our Preschool opens at 7:30 am and closes at 5:30 pm. If you have a full-time contract, you have 40 hours to use at your discretion during the week. Please note that the students in our E10 building do start their academic day at 8:30 am, so we encourage all our families to have their students here before that time. If you have a part-time contract, you have 20 hours during the week to utilize. Please discuss what days and hours your student will be joining us if they are part-time. This is extremely important for staffing purposes.

As a reminder, tomorrow, Thursday, September 5th is Picture Day. Caterpillars, Crickets and Hummingbird students will be required to wear PVS spirit shirts/dresses for their pictures. Quails, Coyotes, and Jackrabbits are required to wear formal dress uniforms. The options for formal dress uniforms are as followed: PVS Oxford white shirt paired with black pants or the red PVS dress. Please have your student at school by 8:15 am so we have time to take students to the restroom and take them to get their picture taken.

This week, we have started to introduce our Bucket Filling lessons. Bucket Filling has been a tradition of Palm Valley School for a number of years. Each of us has an invisible bucket. It is constantly emptied or filled, depending on what others say or do to us. When our bucket is full, we feel great. When our bucket empty, we feel awful. This is a great visual for our students when it comes to empathy and talking about feelings. We have also created a Kindness Tree in our Prekindergarten E10 building. When a student does something kind to another student, the receiving student will let a teacher or parent know and will write the kind act on a leaf and put it on our tree. Our goal is to reach over 100 acts of kindness before the 100th Day of School! I am positive we will surpass this goal ahead of schedule and am excited to see our tree bloom!

A reminder, Pizza Friday will start on September 13th. I am still missing quite a few pizza forms and payments. If you would like to purchase pizza for the entire school year, one slice of pizza each Friday is $46.50 and two slices cost $93. I will only order enough pizza for those who have paid. If you are not sure if you have turned in your form, please contact me directly and I can let you know.

Additionally, I am going through student files, so if I am missing specific paperwork for a student, you will be notified and asked to return these forms as soon as possible.

Thank you for an amazing start to a new school year. I am excited to see our students continue to grow within our care. As always, feel free to contact your classroom teachers if you have any questions about your child. My door is always open, so let me know if I can help.
