Weekly Notes from the Head of Preschool 10/2

Dear Preschool Families,

We are starting our new curriculum theme of Transportation this week! All of our classrooms have been talking to our students about different ways of traveling. We will be discussing many vehicles such as planes, trains, helicopters, trucks, etc. I encourage all of our parents to talk to your child about the theme each month at home. This is a great way to extend our classroom instruction to your homes. Also, please read the Friday Weekly Notes from your teachers, since those will give you a snippet of what happened that week, as well as upcoming events.

Today, we are sending home a reusable bag with each child so we can start our donations to Martha’s Village. At the end of the school year, we take all the money we have raised and give Martha’s Village a check. For each dollar that is raised, we are able to feed a child 7 meals. This is a great opportunity for our students to learn how to give back to their community. This year, we are providing each student with their own bag so they can transport the water bottles themselves. We hope this will give them a sense of pride and responsibility in giving back to our community.

If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for your Parent/Teacher Conferences which take place on Wednesday, October 9th, 2019. Sign-up sheets are located in each individual classroom. Palm Valley School is closed on this day, but we do offer a Mini-Camp which takes place in our E9 Preschool building. Our Team Teachers will be running the camp while our Lead Teachers are holding conferences with parents. You may sign up for Mini-Camp using this link.  Mini-Camp does cost $65 for the day if you register and pay in advance, the price will go up if you register less than 24 hours before.

We have our annual Safety Day scheduled this month for October, 21st, 2019 from 9:00 am-10:30 am. Similar to last year, only our E10 Quails, Coyotes, and Jackrabbits will be participating in this event during the school day. We  give a care package to the Fire Department and the Sheriff Department as a thank you for sharing their expertise and careers with our students each year. There is a sign-up sheet for donations located on the front table in the E10 PK building. They are asking for things such as pancake mix, pasta sauce, trail mix, cooking spray, condiments, and many other items. Please contact me and our Vice President Mrs. Briana Jordan (briana@brudvikinc.com) if you have questions about donations.

I would like to inform parents that Palm Valley Preschool does use a small in-house pool of substitutes when needed. These substitutes are fully qualified preschool teachers. We also have partnered up with Inspiring Imaginative Minds who has provided us with a list of available substitutes for each day which have been pre-approved by me. Each substitute will be sure to have the proper college course requirements, as well as be live-scanned and cleared through the Department of Social Services, with full TB clearance, immunizations up-to-date, CPR Certified and experienced in a school setting. Please let me know if you have any questions about our substitute teachers. We are thankful to have such an amazing team to support us.

As stated last week, we have partnered up with SenseAbilities, a full-service clinic offering speech and language therapy. If you are interested in your child's speech and language being screened by SenseAbilities, please ask your student’s teacher for the permission slip or you can get them from me directly. Once we find out how many families would like to utilize this resource we will be scheduling the date for SenseAbilities to come out and do their screenings.

Box Tops for Education
Did you know that Box Tops for Education is now digital? The company is slowly phasing out the actual "cut-outs" from their products. All you need to do is download the app and scan your receipt(s) within 14 days of purchase to earn cash for Palm Valley School. Box Tops has great incentives for families that shop at Costco, Walmart, Stater Brothers, Food for Less, etc... There are many new products on their list. As a user, you don't need to know what products are eligible, when you scan your receipt in the 14-day period, it does all the work for you. Once scanned, it will show what purchased products were eligible for earning cash, how much was earned by the individual user and our total earned for Palm Valley School. Don’t forget to tell the whole family so anyone who shops can earn for Palm Valley School! If you have questions, our Palm Valley School Box Tops for Education Coordinator is Sarah Dunn, dienys@hotmail.com. (You may still drop off any box tops cutouts that are not expired in the designated Box Top box located in each of our preschool buildings.)

Annual Fund
#TogetherWeRise is this year's theme for our school's annual fund drive and it's only with your support that our students, faculty, and programs can continue to rise. We hope that you will consider supporting our school this year with a gift. Whether you can afford to give $25 or $25,000, your gift matters to us and helps us to drive up the participation percentage and reach our goal of $350,000. You can give by clicking here or making a visit to our Business Office. We are proud to be Firebirds and want you to know that it is only together that we continue to rise.
