Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 9/27

Dear Middle School Families,

I want to thank you all for positively adopting our new policies and supporting us in creating a learning environment that is conducive to academic, social, and emotional learning. The students have shown impressive discipline by not using their cell phones during school hours and wearing the appropriate school uniform. We have also updated our attendance policy and as a reminder, families can excuse up to three absences per semester, but after that, absences are unexcused unless they are accompanied by doctors note or observing a religious holiday. Unexcused absences can have an effect on student grades so please support us in ensuring that students are getting those absences excused.

Here are a few notes moving forward:
Student Led Conferences
Student Led Conferences are next week on October 4thAdvisors will be reaching out to families this week to schedule a meeting time. Our students are working hard on putting together a learning portfolio to share with their families during the conferences. It is a wonderful opportunity for students to discuss their experiences as learners and outline goals they want to accomplish this year.

6th Grade Catalina Island Trip
Letters were sent home last week describing some of the activities the students will be involved in along with a packing list. Please complete the health forms and permission slips as an indication that you are allowing your child to attend the trip. Return the permission slips and health forms to Ms. Kaban in the front office no later than Friday, September 29th. Buses will depart from the school at 5:00 am on Wednesday, November 1st and aim to return to the school by7:00 pm on Friday, November 3rdWe would like to finalize numbers by the end of next week so we can start preparing the students for the requirements of the trip. If you have any questions, please ask me, I will be happy to help.
