Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 5/20

Dear Middle School Families,

We are left with just a little more than one week of school. It is astonishing to think that we are closing the year out in such an unfamiliar way, but as I reflect on the past two months, I am filled with pride for our teachers and students who worked so hard to adjust to an unimaginable reality. Despite the challenges, we have flourished and excelled. We are confident now that regardless of what the next school year holds, we will be able to provide an enriching and comprehensive academic experience.

Stanford University VR Study
Professor Bailenson, Director of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab and Professor of Education at Stanford University is currently conducting a new study on the use of educational virtual reality (VR) at home to support children’s learning during the current school closures. Their research focuses on the use of virtual reality and its behavioral and psychological impact on people. Their goal is to understand if VR is a helpful tool at this time, and if not, how it can be improved. They are seeking families with VR headsets to fill out this survey: (https://stanforduniversity.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8G3LCFOXQo4OJkF)

Participants will also have an opportunity to join the second part of the study involving four short questionnaires over a period of eight weeks. They will compensate the participants of the second part with a $30 Amazon gift card. The results of the survey will be kept confidential.

Please join us in congratulating our 8th grade graduates! We are working hard on the preparations for your virtual ceremony. A pre-recorded video will be released via email and on our social media on Friday, May 29 at 5:00 pm.
