Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 4/25

Dear Middle School Families,

We want to wish our Mathletes good luck this week as they compete against other schools in the 24th annual Rotary Club Math Field Day at John Glenn Middle School this Saturday, April 28th from 8 am - 3 pm. Students will compete for prizes as individuals and school teams by grade level. The competitions include elements of a balanced mathematics program such as computational and procedural skills, along with conceptual understanding and problem-solving. Events include Leapfrog, Calculator Challenge, Mental Gymnastics, Hex, 5 in a Row, 24, Capture and more! The coveted Top Mathematician Award is given to the top student for each grade level. Best of luck to our amazing MS Mathletes!

April Dinner Out Event
Visit Chipotle in Palm Springs tomorrowApril 26th between 4 pm - 8 pm and present this flyer to donate 50% of proceeds to PVS!

National Denim Day
MS and US students are recognizing April as the Sexual Assault Awareness Month by wearing jeans today. Donations were made to the local Coachella Valley Sexual Assault Services (CVSAS) Center.

Advisory Presentation - Gender Identity
Today we have a social behavioral team from Eisenhower coming in to discuss Gender Identity and Diversity issues with our students. By the end of this presentation, our students will be able to define gender roles and stereotypes and grow to understand the meaning of gender identity. Societal and biological influences will be the heart of the presentation stressing the importance and appreciation of diversity. Alice in Wonderland, Jr .- A Middle School Musical Production
This year's Middle School Play is a musical performance of Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Jr. Join precocious and curious Alice on an adventure that is altogether fantastical and memorable. Thirty-one talented singing and dancing Middle School actors and actresses under the direction of Mr. Gahnz and Mr. Sarkis will bring it all to musical life this Friday, April 27th! Mental Health Awareness Month
The month of May is Mental Health Awareness Month. In observance, we invite all of our PVS families to join us May 17th at 6 pm for a screening of the movie ANGST, a documentary that discusses the symptoms and struggles of living with anxiety. For more information and to RSVP, click here.

Spring Choir Concert
Please join the Palm Valley Choirs for a concert featuring songs of Spring. The concert is presented for two nights, Thursday, May 24th, and Friday, May 25th at 7:00 pm in the MPR. Featuring our Middle and Upper School students in Vocal Music Elective and Select Choir. Tickets are General Seating: Adults $10.00, Students $5.00. Purchase your tickets here.

Fullerton Follies
There will be a showcase of the students who performed in the Fullerton festival on Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:30 pm in the MPR. No cost for entry is required but donations will be accepted at the door. Come support the US Students and enjoy a spectacular evening of entertainment.
