Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 4/18

Dear Middle School Families,

Our students are taught to be assertive and resilient in the face of social and academic adversity by retaliating with kindness. Kindness to oneself and kindness to others. Our advisory program and the way we help students resolve conflict through the use of empathy helps to promote that message. Here is an interesting article about Middle School perceptions and how the message of kindness is communicated by parents and guardians. Recent research shows that when children perceived that both of their parents value kindness as much or more than achievement, they were better off both psychologically and academically.

National Denim Day
On Wednesday, April 25th, the Middle and Upper School will be recognizing National Denim Day by supporting the Coachella Valley Sexual Assault Services Center. For a $1 donation, Middle and Upper School students can wear jeans with their uniform shirt on that day. All donations go directly to the CVSAS Center. Students can bring their dollar on any day between now and Wednesday, and sign the jeans to show their support. Please see the front desk receptionist at either division to donate your dollar.

Advisory Presentation - Gender Identity
Next week we have a social behavioral team from Eisenhower coming in to discuss Gender Identity and Diversity issues with our students. By the end of this presentation, our students will be able to define and grow to understand the meaning of gender and gender identity. Societal and biological influences will be discussed with the heart of presentation stressing the importance and appreciation of diversity. If you have any questions about this presentation, please feel free to contact me. Your continued support of our advisory program is appreciated.
