Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 3/14

Dear Middle School Families,

Happy Pi Day! The advancements in science and mathematics have brought about so many incredible technological wonders that are becoming more mainstream and placed right into the hands of our students. I believe the power to communicate ideas can be a rewarding and positive experience. The use of devices to help us access those ideas definitely makes it convenient. In school, practice a no cell phone policy. However, outside of school, the students have access to their phones, computers, and video gaming systems that enable them to communicate with each other. As parents, you can help ensure that the way students engage with each other on their devices outside of school does not have negative consequences in school. One of the ways families can help monitor this is through measuring the amount of time our students spend on their devices. This is an interesting article describing current research findings of the extensive use of technology.
