Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 2/28

Dear Middle School Families,

Last week, nine of our 8th and 9th graders participated in a one-week service learning and cultural education trip to New Orleans. Our students represented Palm Valley with pride and worked hard in all three of their service learning days. They planted 114 trees, sanded down and repainted fishing docks at the City Park, built gardens, installed rain barrels, and replaced light bulbs in homes throughout the city. Each day concluded with periods of reflection, and I am so proud of the level of insight and compassion each of our students expressed about their efforts. Mme. Mulé and I want to say thank you to all of the students that participated and we appreciate all of the families that supported our endeavor to provide this incredible experience. We all walked away fully embracing this simple message, small steps can lead to great change.

Student Led Conferences
On Wednesday, March 7th we will have our second Student Led Conference for this academic year. Student Led Conferences are designed for students to share with their families how they are progressing through their subjects. Students will identify what their areas of strength and areas of development are in each of their classes. Advisors will be reaching out to you this week to schedule appointments. If you are not available that Wednesday, please provide the advisor with an alternative date and time.

Desert Best Friend’s Closet Clothing Drive
Palm Valley School continues to benefit Desert Best Friend’s Closet this week. This is a great opportunity to make a difference in our community and we encourage you to join the effort to help those in need. Stylists and consultants from Desert Best Friend's Closet help people get back on their feet with the clothes that are donated. Whether you are able to donate one item or ten, each article of clothing will empower others to look their best. Suits, business casuals, shoes, handbags, belts, ties, scarves, and jewelry will be accepted. All items must be in clean and good condition. Please present clothes on hangers ready to wear! Bring these items to the front desk of the Middle School. Thank you for your support.

Students who have returned forms with the addresses of grandparents or special friends will be decorating invitations and we will mail them off on their behalf.
