Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 1/31

Dear Middle School Families,

It is the start of a new semester and it’s the students' start with a fresh slate. This is a great opportunity for them to apply all of the things that they have learned from the first semester that made them successful and to reflect on the challenges they faced and how they overcame them. It is important to get off to a good start and we appreciate the support that families can provide students to ensure that they maintain their motivation to succeed. With this in mind, we will be making additional efforts to communicate with you whenever our students start to show signs of struggle. Missing work, low quality work, unusual attendance patterns, and grades that fall below a C- are all indications of a student who needs some extra attention. We will make sure you are aware if your child shows a continued pattern of these behaviors so you can also help at home. The great thing about PVS is the individualized attention and availability of faculty to help support our students. We truly care and genuinely want the best for them. Our advisory program is designed to teach us more about our students' interests and needs. We use this information to grow a better understanding of who they are and the best way to support them socially, not just academically. We truly are a family at PVS and I am looking forward to all of the great things our second semester has to offer!
