Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 12/13

Dear Middle School Families,

'Tis the season to be jolly and academically challenged! With only 7 more days of school before the break, I know a lot of families are shifting their attention to the many ways that they can spend time together. For some of you, that may involve travel or a road trip. If you are looking for ways to spend time with the kids that doesn’t involve looking at a screen, I recommend listening to a podcast together. The right kind of podcast can grab a student's attention and lead to some pretty interesting discussions and debates. Freakonomics, TED Radio, Planet Money, Tumble, and Brains On are all podcasts that feature topics that are guaranteed to capture your student's imagination and challenge them intellectually. Have fun exploring the topics of these podcasts and leading interesting discussions in your car or around your dinner table. I bet it won’t take long before I hear, “Mr. Brooks, did you know…” coming from one of our Middle School students!

Looking forward, here are a few reminders:

Holiday Family Luncheon
Thank you to everyone who has signed up to bring something for the Holiday Luncheon on December 21st! The Parent Association still needs some volunteers for this day. Click here for potluck details.

Ugly Sweater Day
The Ugly Sweater Parade will take place December 20th at 8:20 AM in the gym. All students may take part, but please remember this is NOT a free dress day. Uniform bottoms and shoes MUST be worn.

Winter Choir Concert
On December 20th and 21st at 7:00 PM in the MPR, you are invited to the Winter Choir Concert as our MS and US Choir Elective and Select Choir Students perform Songs of the Season. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased here.

Shoe Drive
Tomorrow morning at 9 am is the deadline for making a shoe donation to support a local elementary in Desert Hot Springs. Please participate by bringing in new, unisex colored shoes (red, blue, white, black), sizes 13-5 to your Divisions' reception area. We want to help these local students feel confident and comfortable running, jumping, and playing. Thank you for your participation and support.

PVS on Ice!
Bring your families out to The Rink at the River at Rancho Mirage for a day of ice skating! On Saturday, December 16th, 20% of ice skating ticket sales will benefit PVS. Please bring this flyer to take part, have fun, and support PVS. You can also pick up the flyer at any front desk reception.
