Dear Middle School Families,
In our ever-changing social climate, there is one thing that seems to never change - the academic and social struggles that come from being a Middle School student! Resilience is an incredible skill that we strive to develop in our students. Resilience teaches our students to overcome obstacles, break down barriers, reduce stress, and manage uncertainty. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from building up one's resilience.
Here is some great advice from the American Psychological Association about how you can help our students better manage their inevitable Middle School struggles. Resilience training is provided under the umbrella of our Advisory Curriculum and I am proud of the advisory work that our faculty provides our students as I believe that at just one day at a time, it makes a positive difference for our students in the long run.
Upcoming Field Trips
FIND Food Bank
Tomorrow from 8:30 am - 11:30 am, our 8th graders will be traveling to the FIND Food Bank in Indio. As part of this wonderful opportunity, students will take a tour of the facility, pack, separate and prepare items for delivery, and learn about all the good they bring to so many families across the valley. I would like to thank our 8th grade families in advance for your willingness to participate and help with transportation.
On January 25 from 8:30 am - 11:30 am, our 6th graders will also be traveling to the FIND Food Bank in Indio. This is a great way to introduce our students to the value of Service Learning. I would like to thank our 6th grade families in advance for your willingness to participate and help with transportation. Permission slips have gone home with the students last week. Please sign and return them by this Friday, January 19th.
Holocaust Remembrance Event - Civic Center Park
On January 26 from 12:35 pm - 3:00 pm, our 8th graders will be attending the Holocaust Remembrance Event at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. This is a special opportunity for our 8th graders to learn about the Holocaust, and to hear stories from Holocaust survivors. Our students learn about the Holocaust and America’s involvement in WWII in history class. This event will not only pay respect to our local survivors but will also enhance the students’ understanding of the lessons taught in class. You are welcome to join us a chaperone. If you are a cleared driver and willing to help transport our students to the event, please indicate that on the permission slip. Permission slips are due January 19th. Your support and child’s participation would be very much appreciated.
Our 2018 Casino Royale Gala is coming up Saturday, February 10 from 6 pm - 11:30 pm at the gorgeous Tamarisk Country Club. The evening will feature cocktails, a casino, dinner, auction, a raise the paddle and more. Additionally, you can stay for dancing and martinis with the DJ in the After Party! If you are planning to attend, I strongly urge you to buy your tickets soon before we sell out at pvs.org/annual-gala.
