Weekly Notes from the Head of Middle School, 11/1

Dear Middle School Families,

It has been a very busy and exciting month of October. I am so proud of our Middle School Student Council for working together and organizing such a successful Halloween Dance. The incredible decorations, DJ, taco bar, and nacho bar were a big hit and all added to the success of the evening. The following day was the fun Fall Festival. It was great to see so many families braving the late October heat and enjoying themselves. Finally, I want to say thank you to the families that joined me, Ms. Clark, Mr. Buck, Ms. Ellis, and Coach Zinman for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Coffee Meetings. We discussed educational philosophies, upcoming events, and service learning opportunities. Thank you for taking the time to visit and discuss all of the wonderful things that are happening in our Middle School.

8th Grade Service Learning and Cultural Education
We already have two students registered for our 8th grade trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. The dates of the trip are February 17th to the 23rd. The approximate cost, depending on the number of students that register, is $1895 + airfare. A current estimate on the airfare is $558. We are strongly encouraging every 8th-grade student to attend. A $500 deposit will be due when you register. Registration details will be managed through Global Works and be kept completely online for convenience. The registration deadline will be November 10th.

To register, follow these instructions:

1) Go to www.globalworkstravel.com and click ENROLL to access our online application.

A parent or guardian should begin the student application by setting up an account with an email and password.

2) Follow the prompts; choose the year 2018, then the school name and destination from a drop down menu.

3) Proceed to the end, pay the $500 deposit, and sign off on the Enrollment Agreement.

The students are doing a great job at abiding by our school uniform policy. Your support in ensuring that all of our students continue to do so is appreciated. Remember that student socks need to be a solid color and student shorts or pants need to be issued by Normans. Parents will be called to deliver and replace any item of clothing that does not comply with our dress code. So please check your child’s uniform before they leave the house in the morning and be sure they are in compliance. Your help certainly goes a long way. For questions on our unfirom policy, please refer to the Official Handbook for Students and Families.

Our Spirit Store is open every day from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. Stop by if you need a PVS shirt, a pair of shorts, or pants. To help prepare for our winter season, Norman's uniforms will be coming to the campus on Thursday, November 30th. Take advantage of their visit and stock up! They will set up in the US lobby from 2:30 - 5:30. Thank you!
