Dear Middle School Families,

Happy New Year! Our students have returned excited and ready to learn! We have a very busy month of January as our athletic season begins and our 6th and 8th grade students are kicking off the year with field trips. The second quarter ends on January 26th and our second semester begins on January 29thTeachers will be working hard to support our students and make sure they finish the first semester strong! I encourage all parents to contact teachers if they have any questions about student progress. Students will also be selecting their electives for the second semester. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our elective choices.

Upcoming Field Trips

FIND Food Bank
On January 18th, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM, our 8th graders will be traveling to the FIND Food Bank in Indio. Students will depart from PVS at 8:30 AM and return by 11:30 AM. As part of this wonderful opportunity, students will take a tour of the facility, pack, separate and prepare items for delivery, and learn about all the good they bring to so many families across the valley. I would like to thank our 8th grade families in advance for your willingness to participate and help with transportation. Permission slips have gone home with the students. Please sign and return them by January 12th, 2018.

Holocaust Remembrance Event - Civic Center Park
On January 26th, 2018 from 12:35 PM to 3:00 PM, our 8th graders will be attending the Holocaust Remembrance Event at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. This is a special opportunity for our 8th graders to learn about the Holocaust, and to hear stories from Holocaust survivors. Our students learn about the Holocaust and America’s involvement in WWII in history class. This event will not only pay respect to our local survivors but will also enhance the students’ understanding of the lessons taught in class. You are welcome to join us a chaperone. If you are a cleared driver and willing to help transport our students to the event, please indicate that on the permission slip. Permission slips are due January 19th, 2018. Your support and child’s participation would be very much appreciated.

For all of our families participating in the New Orleans Service Learning and Cultural Education trip in February, Global Works will be contacting you regarding settling any payments prior to the trip. This is a time-sensitive issue so please contact Global Works if you have any questions about payment. They are more than willing to work with you to ensure all of our students are able to take part in this fantastic opportunity. The success of this trip is dependent on the number of students and families that have committed to participate. Flights will be booked this week. Your attention to this is greatly appreciated.
