Dear Middle School Families,
We had a thrilling Middle School Halloween Dance last Friday! Thank you, Mrs. Bernstein, Ms. Maguire and Mr. Killeen for your support with chaperoning. We all had a great time.
This year, we are traveling to Puerto Rico to help Americans rebuild their homes after the serious damage that occurred because of Hurricane Maria. Our 8th grade students have the chance of a lifetime to immerse themselves in the language and culture of Puerto Rico while serving the larger national community. Also, the service hours earned by your 8th grader will count toward the Upper School 9th grade requirement. We have extended the deadline to Thursday, November 15th. If you are committed already or undecided and want more information, please join me and Mrs. Rice for a more specific, informational meeting on Monday, November 12th at 3:30 pm in MS - E7. The trip is scheduled for Saturday, February 16th - Friday, February 22nd. Please email me with any questions or concerns. You can register online here.
Rae of Hope Retreat for Boys
The Bianca Rae Foundation is hosting its first-ever Rae of Hope Retreat for Boys. For the last four years, more than 1,000 Coachella Valley middle school girls had the opportunity to learn about self-love, leadership, social media safety and anti-bullying. Now, middle school boys will get the chance to learn crucial life skills from inspiring men of the desert. Palm Valley School is the site of this event on Saturday, November 10th. Registration is now open! Click here for more information or to sign-up.
Million Deliberate Acts of Kindness
The Riverside County Office of Education started a kindness movement - "Million Deliberate Acts of Kindness" and we'd like to join in on social media. Our students and families participate in many service activities throughout the year and we’d love to share photos using the Riverside County hashtag #KindnessRivCo. If you are a student or parent on a service learning/community field trip, please be sure to take photos while you're there and share them with Courtney Fisher (firstname.lastname@example.org). Or tag your own acts with #KindnessRivCo and #PalmValleySchool.
Veterans Day Celebration
You are invited to join us at a special assembly on Veterans Day, Monday, November 12th at 8:30 am in our gym. This event is free and open to the public, RSVP here. Dress uniform is required for students.
Upper School Play: The Drowsy Chaperone
Our Upper School Drama Department’s winter production is a parody of American musical comedies of the 1920s. A middle-aged, asocial musical theatre zealot sits in a chair in his small apartment playing the record of his favorite musical, the 1928 hit...The Drowsy Chaperone. The show comes to life onstage with all its crazy-fun characters singing and dancing in 1920’s style. As the story unfolds, the man in the chair wryly comments to the audience on the music, the story, the actors and his own complicated life. Join in on the fun and laughter by purchasing your tickets now at pvs.org/tickets.
PVS Events Pass
This is the last week to save $85 on our fundraising events this year with a PVS Events Pass! This $300 Pass includes a ticket to Wine Night (November 9th, 2018), our Annual "Puttin' on the Ritz" Gala (March 2nd, 2019), and the Fashion Week El Paseo reception (March 21st, 2019 - includes premier seating to the runway show). Purchase at pvs.org/winenight18 or at the door this Friday, November 9th.
